Hands-on with Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded (GDC)

Unlike most games in the '80s and '90s, the Leisure Suit Larry series dared to be risqué. The creators didn't shy away from then-taboo content like sexual humor and nudity, which is one of the reasons we still remember the series so fondly today. The other reason, of course, is that many of the games were incredibly solid point-and-click adventure titles. And with a Kickstartered remake of the first game in the series coming soon, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to spend a little time with it at this year's GDC.

Greedy Grub Preview

Winter is kind of a jerk. It makes things cold, covers a decent chunk of the world in snow, and lays waste to undeserving plant life. The characters of Greedy Grub have been forced to learn this the hard way. Their home, The Forest, has been wiped away by the harsh cold of winter, and it's the player's job to bring things back to normal.

House of the Dead Overkill: The Lost Reels Preview

As an avid fan of the House of the Dead series, I approached House of the Dead Overkill: The Lost Reels with a slight feeling of concern. It's an iOS and Android port of a game I thoroughly enjoyed, and it's always worrisome to see a console game get adapted for smartphones and tablets. Now, having played the game for almost 20 minutes, my feeling of concern has turned into one of anticipation.

King.com rebrands as King, unveils two new Saga games

When compared to other conferences, GDC is fairly light on big announcements. King.com clearly didn't get the memo, though, as they've just announced that they're changing their name to King and releasing two new entries in the Saga series.

PopCap’s James Gwertzman on how to succeed in the Chinese games market [GDC]

There's money to be made in China, but western game developers haven't had the best luck making it. Part of this can be attributed to China's stance towards video games, but according to James Gwertzman, PopCap's Head of Strategic Development, some of the problem also lies with how western developers approach the market in the first place. In a GDC talk titled "OMG! Zombies on the Great Wall of China," Gwertzman discussed PopCap's massive success with Plants vs. Zombies in China, as well as how developers can fare better in the country.

It's hard to tell when you only look at the mainstream coverage, but video games are a vast, all-encompassing medium. No matter who you are or how you live, chances are good that there's a game out there tailored to your sensibilities. To take that even further, chances are good that said game can be found on Free Indie Games. Run by Terry Cavanagh (Super Hexagon), Porpentine, and a few other indie enthusiasts, the site aims to highlight the best under-the-radar indie games on the market.
