    Wii U’s Miiverse social network coming to smartphones this spring

    The question of whether or not Nintendo will develop games for iOS or Android remains as unresolved as ever, but they announced earlier this morning they'll be bringing the Wii U-based Miiverse social network to smartphones this spring. And in what is likely an attempt to stoke the flames of rivalry between Android and iOS owners, they didn't specify which operating systems it will launch on. Well played, Nintendo.

    If you're a fan of endless runners, the world is pretty much your oyster. They exist in some form or another on nearly every modern platform, and at last count there were approximately 800 billion of them. Actually, you can add a 1 to the end of that number: Zynga is diving headfirst into the genre with Running With Friends, a mobile endless runner with a style not unlike the seminal Temple Run.

    When a game called Contra Evolution Revolution shows up on the Chinese App Store, it's hard not to be a little suspicious. The iOS platform has been home to an absurd amount of shoddy clones and poorly ported ROMs, with the hilariously fake Pokemon Yellow being one of the most infamous examples. But this particular release appears to be a legitimate remake of the classic NES/arcade game, featuring improved visuals and new playable characters. Who'da thunk?

    Atari US files for bankruptcy, aims to restructure

    Atari, arguably one of the most well-known game companies in the world, has filed for bankruptcy. The move is an attempt on their behalf to separate themselves from debt-burdened parent company Atari S.A. They'll be selling off a number of assets, ranging from IP like Pong, Asteroids, and Centipede, along with their logo (shown directly to the left).
