    It turns out there's a secret city of mole-people underneath us all. I never knew about it until my companion dog Rex fell in a hole in the basement and we ended up there. He even got himself arrested for espionage. Ironic being charged as a "mole" by a bunch of moles, but here in the City of Secrets that sort of witty nonsense is par for the course.

    Match 3 has been a stalwart genre in the video game world for years now. Seems like we've always just been here, clearing lines and items for points, only to have the screen just fill up again and again and again. It's amazing to me that we can even still be interested in the genre, yet it's still just as compelling as ever. Some games, like YumYumBoy, manage to even make it feel a little refreshing!

    Boxhead the Nightmare goes out to the people that think Facebook games only involve tending farms and waging mafia wars. It's a pure twitch action game that requires you to have decent reflexes and control over the keyboard. It does a good job of incorporating both shooting and a persistent upgrade system to make a pretty compelling game.

    Back in September I reviewed Neuroshima Hex, which is a fantastic little hex-based strategy release based on a popular real-world board game. Now the developers at Big Daddy's Creations have followed up with Neuroshima Hex Puzzle, a game that does away with the battles and the AI opponents and leaves the player to use the same rules and pieces to work their way out of pre-set jams. It's a strategy game meets puzzler!

    At this point the term "retro" has lost all applicable meaning, kinda like "HD." Nowadays anything with chunky square graphics is considered retro no matter what the gameplay elements are. I tend to attribute the term retro not so much to games that look like older titles but rather games that PLAY like older titles. Kami Retro has glimpses of these elements, but trades more on its main character being square than it does in old school gameplay.

    For a long time I used to enjoy playing collectible card games like Magic: The Gathering. Eventually however, having to constantly buy cards just got too expensive, and I sort of faded from the hobby. While those CCG's have made the jump to iOS in the excellent Shadow Era, the idea of spending more money for better cards is still there. Enter the card drafting game, which gives you both the feeling of a CCG and not having to spend any extra money.

    Not long ago I had the pleasure of reviewing Minotaur Rescue, the first iOS title made by long-time game maker Jeff Minter. His company Llamasoft has made quite a name for themselves making truly bizarre games that seem to divide the people who try them into either the love or hate camp. Most people hate them, and I can sort of see why... but I steadfastly belong in that other group. Guess that makes me the perfect person to dig through the nonsense and review Minotron: 2112.
