    One of the primary measures of a good mahjong game is the amount of time it coaxes its players to invest matching tiles. Judged by this standard, I-Play's Mahjong Memoirs is a winner. With hundreds of original tile layouts, plus a standalone story mode that ought to take most players at least five or six hours to work through, there's a good chance you'll be playing this latest iteration of the ancient Chinese game for weeks, if not longer.  But the game's impressive scope isn't the only reason to play. It also provides players with a variety of engaging, non-traditional objectives.

    Masters of Mystery: Blood of Betrayal, a new hidden object game from Canadian developer Big Blue Bubble, will feel very familiar to those who played Masters of Mystery: Crime of Fashion, a polished and challenging hidden object game released earlier this year. But that's no reason to avoid it-especially since this CSI-like sequel offers up a few welcome improvements.

    The question begged by Echoes of the Past: Royal House of Stone, a hidden object adventure game from Orneon with great art and some very clever puzzles, is this: How long should a game last to be worth our money? I was having a fine time playing when all of a sudden, at just a hair over two hours into the experience, the game abruptly ended with a "to be continued" message. Does such a short play justify digging into one's wallet? We should probably take a closer look at the game before ruling. It's a bit of a whodunit. Upon visiting an old castle museum and viewing a series of oil paintings of long-dead royalty we are suddenly whisked into the past to a time when the people in the paintings were alive. Sort of.

    Repetition has become so common in hidden object games that we've simply learned to accept it. We head into each new game knowing that we'll likely be fed a handful of scenes filled with the same objects to find over and over again. This is unfortunate because it need not be so, as proven by Insider Tales: The Secret of Casanova, a HOG that makes a point of ensuring that the player is constantly challenged with new and interesting environments and activities.

    My opinion of Little Things, a hidden-object game with lovely art and refreshingly straightforward game design, wavered between like and dislike the entire time I played. In the end, I came down pretty much smack in the middle, which is bothersome because it feels like the sort of game a person ought to have a strong feeling about one way or another. Most hidden object games provide players with a realistic scene littered with scores of random objects positioned to blend in with the environment in clever ways. That's not the case here. In Little Things, the objects for which we are hunting actually form the greater picture.

    I love it when I feel game makers working hard to engage my interest. That's exactly the way I felt while playing Gardenscapes, a new hidden object game from Playrix Entertainment that sports top notch presentation, great art, and game design that kept me perpetually wanting to play just one more puzzle. The game begins with the player inheriting a mansion behind which sits a once resplendent garden. With the help of the butler, Austin, your job is to restore the garden to its former glory by purchasing a wide variety of ready-made elements, ranging from shrubs and gazebos to birdcages and mini-golf holes.

    These days, hidden object games tend to fall into two categories: those that make a valiant effort to innovate within a genre that has already been thoroughly explored, and those that come off as a little more than an attempt to cash in on our obsession to search for stuff in crowded pictures. Travel League: The Missing Jewels is, unfortunately, a member of the latter group. Players take on the role of Alex, a young woman enlisted to help find the stolen jewels of an ancient and mysterious group known as the Travel League, of which her grandfather is a longtime member. She travels to cities around the globe, talking to locals who provide information on what has happened to each piece.
