    Nightmerica is a jovial celebration of the macabre, from its ominous title music to its gruesome pixelated deaths. It's clumsy in many ways, but it's also jagged, gritty, and a retro love letter in all the right ways. The killer soundtrack helps a lot, but it's also rocking an intriguing look that just feels right.

    The success of Angry Birds means that there will inevitably be copycats, and the fact of the matter is there have been plenty to grace the App Store already. In the case of Pota-Toss World Tour, it's the latest in a long line of spinoffs with just enough differences to make it feel unique yet still derivative. Despite its predecessor's focus on GPS-based levels and intriguing locales, the follow-up feels stunted and more than a little lazy. Perhaps the potatoes featured in Pota-Toss World Tour are actually couch potatoes rather than the adventurous spuds seen in action in the original game.

    Wizarding can be a rather precarious occupation. The perils associated with being a magic user are nothing short of terrifying when you think about it -- gnarly beasts after you, other wizards challenging you to wizard-offs, all that good stuff. But what were to happen if you lost everything that actually marked you as a wizard -- namely, your powers. Poor Arlo of Arlo's Adventure has fallen victim to just that, and it's up to you to help him make things right.

    TV-like electronic beings shouldn't be so adorable. Cordy 2, from SilverTree Media, is a platformer starring a cute little robotic hero named Cordy who's just trying to rescue all his friends. They've been stolen away by the evil Boogaloo and his goons, and waiting between Cordy and his gang are treacherous teleporters, unlockable areas, and puzzles. Cordy's got his work cut out for him, but you'll have a blast with him in this colorful little game bursting with personality.

    We already know the quickest way to take out a zombie is by taking off its head. That's common knowledge. But did you know trains are also great for accomplishing mass zombie genocide? Dragonhead Games is on board, barreling through the App Store with a unique take on the usual zombie apocalypse simulator: Zombies and Trains. It's an addictive, fast-paced exercise in tower defense where the shuffling undead horde is out for the brain in the center of the play field, and it's your job to ensure they go hungry or are obliterated. Brutal? Yes. Fun? Absolutely.

It's charming in a fifth-period math class kind of way, chock-full of special activities to help you better understand the relationships between shapes and puzzle pieces.
