    Lemmings was a novel game during many a childhood, especially if you grew up in the golden age of PC gaming. It was a bizarre exercise in sending the helpless creatures to their death if you weren't quick or savvy enough to figure out an escape route. It was gleefully morbid beneath the veneer of cuteness, and offered multiple enticing layers of strategy across several different games. WildTangent's Penguins! Escape is a clone that takes the cuteness factor of Lemmings and ups the ante, by giving you hundreds of adorable little penguins marching along from a start point to an end point that you must safely get them to. It's nearly the same game, but it's adapted for iOS players and touch controls. And it's actually quite fun.

    What do you get when you cross Geometry Wars with one of those simple "fit-the-ball-through-the-hole" games? You get FallDown! 2, of course, a sequel to the wildly popular FallDown!Using tilt controls to guide your ball down the maze, you avoid a nefarious laser as you make your way through the nooks and crannies of each level. Collecting stars, avoiding bombs, and zipping through each stage is what makes FallDown! 2 so addictive, though we surmise the neon overhaul has something to do with it as well.

    When it comes to the video game realm, digging may be an oft-recreated theme, but that doesn't mean there's no room left for some awesome newcomers to enter the fold. Games like Digging and Glean are enough to pique your interest when it comes to the genre, but Dig! is a retro-flavored take on mashing through the ground and searching for treasure. Reminiscent of Qix and all the 80s-tinged adventures out there, Dig! is an arcade hit that's sure to please.

    As the follow-up to the wildly popular Mr. Runner Plus and original Mr. Runner, Mr. Runner 2: The Masks has a lot to live up to. It's an infinite runner, but things are a bit different this time around -- rather than working toward increasing speed and a stressful play environment, things slow down. You can change the speed of your sprint throughout the level, and this makes for some interesting gameplay tweaks players will undoubtedly enjoy. It's telling that the Zing Games logo has a gamer sitting on the toilet -- that's likely where you'll end up having the most fun with it.

    Run Sheldon is one of the most adorable free endless runners to hit the App Store in quite some time. Perhaps that's because it's based upon one of the most memorable fables of all time: how the tortoise beat the hare in a race. This time, the tortoise in question is adorable little Sheldon, who's facing not just one but an entire gang of hares who want to beat him to the finish line. Old Man Hare wants to take the Golden Race Trophy back from Sheldon, but as he's gotten a little chubby in his old age, he's got to depend on his rabbit buddies to help him do so. That's where you come in.

    Bottle Cap Blitz is a specific kind of game. It's fast, friendly, and free of the bells and whistles and constraints seen in a glut of App Store releases. And without a gorgeous exterior or extraneous additions, it still manages to reel you in and hook you with simplistic, addictive gameplay that channels the likes of Paper Toss, while combining the nature of the hit Fruit Ninja.

But thanks to the bizarre gem The Spookening, you can be on your way to terrorizing villagers and grinning smugly with little more than an app purchase. The Spookening is a silly but satisfying exercise in creeping out the living, the only way a ghost knows how.

    Danger Boat sounds exactly like the kind of rip-roaring good time you'd expect to have with a B-movie featuring scantily-clad women, rugged adventurers, and a shark. Or something like that. Or a bizarre James Bond-like vehicle that suggests you're about to be in for a bad time. Instead, it's a very pedestrian endless runner set amongst the bluest waters of the ocean. Your job is to bob and weave through rocks, sets of incoming missiles, and other obstacles that serve as swift ends to your journey. In short, it's a pretty tame romp whose name doesn't feel very appropriate -- you're hardly experiencing any "danger" here.
