After that there were a few more journeys, some political intrigue, a stint in the dungeon and, in 1506, his death at age 54 in the Spanish city of Villadolid. But things didn't go quite so smoothly in Ancient Spirits: Columbus' Legacy. Set in 1953, this new hidden object game puts you in the hiking boots of Virginia Carter, a research assistant accompanying famed archaeologist Professor McNara as he tried to unravel once and for all the secrets of Christopher Columbus' lost, cursed flagship.

    With all the time-travel-related misadventures people have stumbled into over the years, you'd think that we would have learned by now to just leave it alone. But no, we keep going back, over and over again, throwing history into disarray as we trip through the time stream, leaving no end of calamities in our wake. Time Mysteries: Inheritance is kind of like that, repeating the same things that have been done dozens of times before in dozens of other games. Instead of a calamity, though, this one adds up to be a pretty decent game.

    Zombies, snakes and murder, oh my! All of this and more awaits in Twisted Lands: Shadow Town, a new hidden object thriller in which the name of the game isn't to solve the mystery and save the world, but just to find your woman and get the heck out of Dodge. A strong start had my hopes high but in the end, a few too many missteps keep this adventure from being a truly memorable experience.

    Most hidden object games include a handful of puzzles to break up the action. Star Crossed Love turns that formula upside-down by including almost nothing but puzzles, with little bits of hidden object searching scattered here and there. But just like in "regular" hidden object games, most of these puzzles aren't particularly good, and the hidden object gameplay isn't any better. Throw in a few poor design choices and a clumsy interface and what you end up with is a star-crossed game that really isn't very easy to love.

    I'm going to have to ask for some leeway on this one. The facts of the matter are simple enough: Lost in the City: Post Scriptum is a bog-standard hidden object game with mediocre graphics, simplistic gameplay and noticeably rough edges. Yet underneath all that, for those who care to dig, is a gripping story of love and loss, redemption and hope, set in a bizarre otherworld in which the fate of humanity rests not on its best, but simply its last.

    The trouble with having a special power is that sooner or later, you're bound to run into some jerk who wants to exploit it for his own benefit. Just ask Jane, a journalist who discovered she has the ability to not only visit her past lives but to actually interact with the world in which they took place. Life was good until word of her talent reached the conniving Dr. Weiner, who decided to commit Jane to his asylum and experiment on her in order to become the most famous psychiatrist in the world! It's a lame plan, sure, but Jane's pain is our gain, as Reincarnations: Uncover the Past turns out to be a pretty decent choice for players in the mood for some straight-up hidden object adventuring.
