    Following closely in the path blazed by Angry Birds, Shoot the Apple is a physics-based puzzle game that starts off easy but grows increasingly difficult as players dig ever deeper into its many levels. But it lacks both the charm of the world's most famous object-flinger and its multi-layered complexity; it's an amusing but easily forgettable diversion that probably won't hold pride of place on the homescreen of anyone's mobile for very long.

    Serious Sam 3: BFE is a heck of a game. For newcomers it's a revelation, for old-timers, a reminder: this is how it used to be, back when men were men and shooters didn't have cover or weapon limits or storylines that people pretended to care about. Instead they had guns, and lots of things to point them at. That, in a nutshell, is Serious Sam 3. It's fast-paced, wantonly violent and viciously disdainful of the modern era of FPSes. And it is awesome.

    You don't see too many point-and-click adventures that get the full-on, triple-A treatment these days, but The Book of Unwritten Tales is most definitely one of them. It's an absolutely gorgeous game, filled with oddball characters, laugh-out-loud funny moments and enough old-time adventuring to keep you busy for days. If your heart longs for the glory days of Monkey Island and King's Quest, you need to play this game.

    Girl With a Heart Of is described as "an experimental interactive narrative," and it's not hard to see why. It's not so much a game as a "Choose Your Own Adventure" with more serious philosophical undertones, laid atop a unique fantasy backdrop, hand-drawn art and a rich soundtrack. But its good ideas are undermined by some rather glaring flaws in execution that keep it from being a true standout despite its unique nature.

    Templars! What is it with those guys, anyway? They're always getting up to no good. This time they're causing trouble for the good folks in a small town in southern France, including your brother and his wife, and they need your help to set things right! No points for originality in the setup, but Hallowed Legends: Templar manages to bring some exciting tricks to the table and be a lot of fun anyway.
