    Cthulhu Uber Alles is horrific, alright, but probably not in the way the developers intended. Billed as a "casual adventure," it's really more of a Choose Your Own Adventure book, written by the Lovecraft nerd who sat beside you in grade eight English, with a bunch of pages missing. It's actually a pretty good idea, but it's sure not a good game.

    In Motor Town: Soul of the Machine, you step into the role of a New York City reporter seeking her big break by way of an interview with a brilliant but reclusive inventor of some of the world's first automobiles. But he doesn't just make cars; he believes that cars, like people, have souls, and while the reasons for, or significance of, that belief is never explored, the fact that he's such a weirdo apparently makes him a worthwhile subject. It's a perfectly competent hidden object adventure, but really just not all that terribly interesting.

    One look at WordStars, once you've got past the option to start a new game with friends or strangers and purchase one of four different power-ups, and you'll know exactly what you're in for. The game bears more than a passing resemblance to the television game show Wheel of Fortune, with a big thumb-spun wheel covered in dollars amounts (and the ever-present "miss a turn") and a board covered with blank white blocks that fill with letters as you play. The objective is simple: guess the letters, solve the puzzle, and win the game!

    In Retrovirus you take on the role of an anti-virus program sent out to track down and destroy a particularly nasty worm that's infected the computer in which you reside. But as an "Agent" inhabiting a world of bits and bytes that's shaped to resemble our own, the process is very hands-on: Your tools are the digital equivalent of shotguns and rocket launchers, and the worm and its minions are doing their level best to kill you. It's not without flaws, but somehow this strange, low-priced indie game turned out to be one of the most entertaining shooters I've played in an awfully long time.

    It's temping to say that Deity Wars is like Rage of Bahamut, but that wouldn't really be true. The truth is that Deity Wars is Rage of Bahamut, with rougher edges and a more overblown art style. It's not bad as far as collectible card battle games go - I just don't understand why it exists in the first place.

The new game promises even more customization options than big-budget franchises like Need For Speed or Gran Turismo, with hundreds of replaceable parts like bumpers, roofs, doors, hoods and more, all gloriously rendered in high-polygon, 3D models.
