    Once a game genre blows up on Facebook, it gets increasingly more difficult for new developers to find a way to make their entry in the genre feel distinct. Playrix's Township, rather remarkably, manages not to look or feel excessively like any of the other city building games currently available on Facebook. What sets Township apart is a mechanic that ties the size and prosperity of a user's town to economic factors like farming, industry, and trade. While the result may levy a "no friends" tax on solo gamers, it has lots of promise for players who have friends in the game with them.

    Odd Manor is an unusual Facebook game in which you control a gnome that's tasked with trying to clean up the grounds of a run-down old house you've inherited. Naturally, the house was originally owned by a magician and you have the opportunity to re-learn all of the original owner's magic feats by, uh, forcing your gnome to cultivate your garden. By growing special plants, you can release fairies with a variety of magic powers into your garden, earn money, and hoard magical artifacts. You can also decorate your garden, but chances are you'll spend far more time trying to liberate it from stray rocks and weeds.

    Fated Haven: Chapter One emphasizes over and over again during its tutorial that it's not like most other RPGs and players need to be careful. These instructions are ultimately quite confusing, because if you've ever played an indy RPG developed in RPG Maker XP, you've already played Fated Haven. Everything from its visuals to its gameplay and basic storyline are extremely derivative. That's not to say Fated Haven isn't any fun at all, it's just fun in a way that evokes fond nostalgia for a very specific period from gaming history.

    Elf City looks and plays a lot like early Facebook games. It's a management sim where you build a little settlement of your own and earn money from operating the local market. The plot of the game, such as it is, somehow involves Earth being destroyed. A handful of human survivors are rescued by elven spaceships and taken to the elven homeworld for a chance to build a new civilization. In practical terms this means you get a plot of land to fill up with buildings, leveling up and unlocking new items as you gain experience.

    Samurai Dynasty is a Travian-like game, like most strategy games on Facebook. As you might guess from the name, it introduces a medieval Japanese theme as a way of distinguishing it from the countless other medieval Europe-themed games in this genre. Samurai Dynasty also uses a more graphically rich interface than is typical for this sort of strategy game, including a play avatar and plenty of useful sidebars in addition to the typical icon animations. In Samurai Dynasty your goal is to develop and defend a thriving city, then build new expansion cities to increase your empire. You can develop up to eight cities.

    Apparatus is something of an Android reincarnation of legendary 90s computer game series The Incredible Machine. Much like its predecessor, Apparatus is about figuring out how to build a Rube Goldberg device that accomplishes a particular task, usually flipping a ball into a goal. To accomplish this, the game gives you planks, weights, levers, pulleys, cables, and even batteries. You use the touchscreen to drag building components around, sometimes combining them to create more complex parts.

    In case you were wondering whether or not people were still making games to cash in on Puzzle Quest's success a few years back, the answer is yes. Although Herofy doesn't play very much like Puzzle Quest, it's still a match-3 puzzle game that goes far out of its way to add a veneer of RPG to the proceedings. While your character doesn't level up of have stats, you do buy power-ups from a shop, defeat enemies, and collect trophies you can store in your in-game cottage. Herofy just puts more of emphasis on the puzzle gaming part of the RPG puzzler equation.

The goal of the game is to serve tea and desserts to as many customers as possible, make lots of money, and spend it on improving your shop. It's very simple, traditional management sim stuff. The most noticeable element of Tea4Friends is the cartoony avatars, which are drawn in a wonderfully expressive style. While not highly customizable in terms of fashion options, you can create extremely detailed faces. You can freely customize your avatar and the in-game represenations of friends you hire as staffers.
