Graphics and a more measured approach to game design are the main things that set Superfun Town apart from the pack of city-builders. Otherwise, if you've spent much time with MyEmperororMillionaire City, you'll find this game feeling quite familiar (if beautiful).

This is a fashion store simulator along the lines of games like Mall World, but it offers lines of name brand and designer label clothes to sell along with exceptionally detailed graphics that use 3D models for avatars.

    Slowly but surely, casual game publishers are beginning to create social versions of their games for Facebook. The tycoon series Chocolatier has made one of the more memorable conversions, with PlayFirst turning it into a restaurant game of the sort Restaurant City and Cafe World made famous. You earn money by making chocolate and selling it to customers who can be quite picky, then invest your gains in more production facilities and a bigger, more beautiful shop. The visuals are marvelously designed to be pleasing to the eye, with a Victorian sense of fashion to your customers and an item shop stuffed full of baroque décor.

    All city-builders hearken back to the basics of Sim City, but Resort World hearkens more closely than usual. While the disasters don't seem to be included, the interface and open-ended goals of Resort World are right out of the older Sim City titles. Resort World asks you to do nothing more specific than build up a resort town that attracts lots of visitors from the ocean liners that pass through from time to time. You can't build a very wide variety of buildings at first, but you've got incredibly powerful customization and design tools right from the start. You can build little stone paths between buildings, upgrade your buildings, purchase fairly cheap flowers and trees for decoration, and even change your buildings' colors.

    Some social game genres explode, all but taking over Facebook within a matter of weeks. Aquarium games, farm sims, and city builders have all followed this pattern. Zoo sims like Zoo Paradise are a different story entirely. This genre has built itself up slowly over time, largely ignored by some major developers. Zoo sims generally involve running a virtual zoo by putting animals in habitats, then maybe playing mini-games or doing little jobs to keep your zoo clean during the downtime. At heart they're tycoon games that prey upon the Internet's love of adorable animals. Zoo Paradise is probably the best zoo sim to date.

    City-building social games work for the same reason board games like Monopoly do: they appeal to basic human greed and the desire to control lots of property. As a result, many of these games end up being infinite money treadmills once you've played them for awhile. You fill up the space the game allots you with buildings and then, well, you're done. Hello City does things a little differently. You do need to make money in order to finance new development, but the game's real goal involves making your town into one that's happy as well as large and thriving.
