Game Introduction – Frontline Commando 2

Frontline Commando 2 is a third-person cover shooter created by Glu Games. It’s a sort of cover-based arcade-style shooter, with a heavy emphasis on weapon and squad mate upgrading. Gamezebo’s quick start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.

Quick Start Guide

Getting Started

  • Frontline Commando 2 is available for free. Just click on the “Play Now” button up at the top there to get started.
  • The typical Push Notification questions will greet you when you start it up, but even if you try to opt out you’ll still get messages on your lock screen. So if you really want to avoid receiving notifications you’re going to have to go into the options menu to shut them off.
  • The in-game tutorial will then take you through the basics of combat – moving between cover, aiming, shooting, using scoped weapons, upgrading, assigning squad mates, and using squad mate special abilities.

Interface

  • From the main screen you’ll see some basic information about your character and equipped weapons. The top of the screen displays the Energy Timer and your current Energy (needed for PvP), your current level and a progress bar that shows how much you need for your next level, your cash, and your gold (premium currency). You may tap on the “+” sign in the top-right corner to purchase more gold if desired.
  • Options – represented by the gear icon. Allows you to adjust sound and Push Notification settings.
  • Store – view and purchase weapons if you have the cash/gold.
  • Squad – view the details of your squad mates, assign new soldiers, and train (i.e. upgrade) them.

  • Social – view the Battle Log, Achievements, and Leaderboards.
  • PvP – pit your squad against another player’s for extra experience and cash, as well as leaderboard rankings. Note that you must complete the final stage in the first section of the solo campaign to unlock PvP.
  • Campaign – shoot guys in the face, earn cash/items/gold/soldiers, and use your winnings to increase your odds in later levels and PvP. There’s a maximum of three rewards you can earn in each level based on specific criteria. Note that you can still acquire cash from replaying levels, but you may only earn each reward once.

Combat

  • You’ll also have a few buttons to deal with when in combat. Along the top of the screen are the Pause button, your character’s health, the level timer, and your currently-equipped weapon along with its current ammo. You may tap the weapon display to reload at any point.
  • Swipe your finger around the screen to aim, and keep an eye out for those ever-present red barrels!
  • Arrows – allow you to run between cover. Depending on your location you may only see one on the right or left side.
  • Scope – will display in the bottom-left corner if using a scoped weapon. Tap to bring up the weapon and look through the scope. Note that you can tap the Scope button to pop out of cover and aim, which is much faster than popping out of cover first, then using the scope.

  • Limited Use Items – grenades, drones, medkits, and rockets. Tap one of the icons to have your squad mates use the item in the area you’re aiming (i.e. lob a grenade, fire a rocket, etc), or simply heal in the event of a medkit. These items aren’t unlimited, however, so make sure you have some available before you try to use them.
  • Cover – ducks in and out of cover.
  • Fire – sprays bullets wherever you’re aiming.
  • Switch Weapons – cycle between the two weapons you have equipped. Note that switching weapons while reloading will reset the reload counter when you try to change back, as will running between cover points.

Tips and Strategies

  • Don’t waste gold on promo packs; they’re really not worth the gamble.
  • Consider holding off on upgrading your starter weapons in favor of saving up for a machine gun and shotgun. Certain missions require the use of a specific weapon to earn all the rewards, and it’s really not too difficult to push through the first several levels with low-end weapons.
  • That said, don’t forget to upgrade entirely. Each of the changes may be minimal, but they add up.
  • Make liberal use of the Reload button (the weapon window in the top-right of the screen). Not only will it keep your clips full, but it will also make your character duck back behind cover. It’s usually better than simply tapping the Cover button.
  • Enemies who launch rockets or lob grenades tend to use them after switching cover, so if you see a rocket-using enemy run behind something get ready to move!
  • Snipers won’t take a shot at you until you see the lines from their laser sights hone in on you and become a dot. You’ll have a clear shot at them until then.
  • When buying weapons with cash, note that you can also opt to pay with gold. Weapons bought with gold, even the regular ones (no gold borders), can be upgraded a few levels higher. This means that, when fully upgraded, they’ll always be stronger than weapons bought with cash.
  • Don’t be afraid to try the Elite missions. Sure they’re super-tough and will most likely destroy you utterly, but the only thing you’ll lose if you fail is maybe a minute of your time. Otherwise if you win you get some nice rewards
