Endless Chaos Preview
One of the most classic and popular PC game genres is the fantasy role-playing game, where you design a knight, ranger, mage, or other sort of hero (or heroes) and go questing. Whether you play them single-player or the massively multiplayer variety, RPGs are basically about killing bad guys and amassing loot. You’d think Facebook would be awash in fantasy RPGs given the popularity of the genre in PC download games, but that’s not really the case. Peerflux’s Endless Chaos is really only one of a handful of fantasy-themed games on Facebook, let alone fantasy RPGs. Most Facebook RPGs end up being about mobsters and fashion models.
Quest, Battle, and Level Up In Endless Chaos
Peerflux uses the basic text RPG format that Facebook gamers should be very familiar with in Endless Chaos, though the company does a lot to try and jazz it up. The game features ton of art and an intricate setting with its own all-new fantasy races and classes. This isn’t your usual Tolkien pastiche full of elves and dwarves and some race that resembles but is legally distinct from hobbits. Endless Chaos lets you play as a cyborg, an energy being, or a massive barbarian right out of a Robert E. Howard novel. You can opt to be whatever sort of magician your race permits, or a ranger or warrior analogue. The races are all in conflict, which drives the game’s PvP component.
The gameplay is very straightforward. The game gives you quests that call for killing monsters, winning PvP battles, defeating bosses, or hunting down special materials. These activities all consume stamina, which regenerates slowly on a timer. For each quest you can opt to complete it in “good” or “evil” style, a decision that would be more satisfying if the good and evil options didn’t feel so arbitrary most of the time. Still, it’s nice to have two methods of playing through the various quests, many of which are specific to you race and class combination.
There’s an extensive town area to wander around, including a skill trainer who gives your character new abilities, a bank, and several merchants. Everything is represented as simple click-through menus, though with a richer visual style than you’d see in an older text RPG like Mafia Wars. When you play PvP, you get to see limited combat animations and attack your enemies with skills you can choose to customize as you level up. It’s a little bit deeper than the customization of the average text RPG, but shouldn’t be difficult for any Facebook gamer to figure out.
The worst that can be said of Endless Chaos right now is that the servers are fairly unstable, leading to a lot of long load times, and that the in-game text is loaded with distracting typos. In terms of actual content and things to do, Endless Chaos actually has a lot to offer fans of fantasy RPGs. If you want something that’s quicker to play than the usual 3D client-based stuff, Endless Chaos is definitely worth a look. It’s a solid game now and sure to improve as it gets more updates and player feedback.
