Doglife is the dog version of Bitlife, and sees you living out the life of a mutt. There are a variety of different choices you can make, and a variety of different directions that your life can take. In this guide we’re going to look at how you can gain respect in the game.

Respect is important because it moves you up the hierarchy, making you the literal top dog. There are a number of achievements – click here to read our complete list of Doglife achievements and how to get them – that you’ll need to be well respected to get as well. Plus, it’s just nice to be noticed.

We’re going to show you how to get respect, and why it might sometimes be a bad idea, in the four different living situations you might find yourself in in Doglife. So let’s do this – here’s how to gain respect in Doglife.

When you’re a pet

A lot of the ways you gain respect are going to be the same whatever situation you’re in. You need to open the hierarchy menu, then pick an animal from it. This will show you a bunch of different interaction options.

The ones we need to focus on are Attack, Bark and Snarl. Use these options on the other pets in your family home and you should earn some respect. You need to be careful, though. If you’re trying to intimidate the alpha pet, there’s a good chance you’ll get attacked. Instead, start low on the hierarchy and work your way up.

You can also gain respect by using the Act Up options in the activities menu. This will let you do stupid things to gain the respect of your fellow pets. Bear in mind that acting up might get you sent to the shelter, so try and balance things out. Look for other humans, like the mailman, that you can challenge as well.

When you’re in a store

Most of the above is also true when you’re a dog in a pet store. It’s usually best to wait until you’ve been bought from the pet store before you start trying to earn respect, though, because you’re much more likely to get sent to the pound if you’re being a nuisance.

When you’re on the streets

Again, getting respect when you’re on the streets is similar to when you’re a pet. You need to be much more careful, though, because dogs and other animals on the streets are far more aggressive than they are in the first two situations. Focus on challenging animals lower down the hierarchy to work your way up.

When you’re in the shelter

There’s a similar hierarchy in the pound as there is on the streets, but there are also options for being aggressive towards the workers. Try not to attack them, though, because that may well end up with you being euthanized, which will end the game.

Work your way up the pecking order, gaining respect from lower animals before you even think about challenging the stronger and more respected dogs.
