Gear Race 3D is a racing game that’s entirely about shifting gears. Hit your gear change at the right time and you’ll speed down the raceway to the finish line. Get it wrong and, well, you won’t.
There are a few things you need to keep an eye on, and it can be a bit overwhelming at first. Which is why we’ve written this guide. It’s filled with all the hints, tips and tricks you’re going to need to win every race.

You want to be shifting gear when your rev counter is about half way through the red section. Change earlier and you’ll miss out on some acceleration, change later and your engine will be thrashing about uselessly.
A perfect change will see you hitting the shift in the red and dropping down into the green revs for the next gear. It’s hard to master, but once you’ve nailed it you’re going to be speeding ahead of the pack.
Because of the undulating nature of the tracks, sometimes you’re going to lose traction. In other words, you’re going to start flying through the air. At times like this you’ll want to shift down gears. Look at the rev counter to get your hints.
If it’s dropped below the green, you’ll want to shift down to get yourself in a better position when you land. Keep an eye out for stalls as well. When they happen you’ll need to shift back down to first.
Whenever you’ve got the cash to upgrade one of your stats, you should spend it. And whenever you can watch a video to get an extra boost, you should do that too.
Any chance you get to earn more cash or to make your car more powerful is a chance you should be taking. The more powerful your vehicle, the easier it’s going to be to win every race.
At the end of the race, you want to tap as fast as you can to use your nitro boost. The more nitro you use, the higher up the multiplication meter you’re going to be able to drive.
You can always tell when the end is coming up from the chequered flag on the floor. When you spot it coming up, get ready to tap for all you’re worth. The higher your multiplier, the more cash you’re going to get. And we’ve already covered why that’s a good thing.
