By now you’ve probably gotten quite deep into Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall. That’s good, because these hints, tips and tricks are perfect for intermediate players. We’re going to go more in depth about how you can make the most out of your playing time.

One thing you should know is that there’s going to be some grind. You can spend your money on boosts and so on, but if you’re looking to get ahead without spending, you’re going to have to slug it out. Don’t worry though, we’ve tried to make that slog as pleasurable as possible.

If you’ve got your own suggestions, then feel free to let us know in the comments section at the bottom of the guide. And make sure you keep checking Gamezebo, because we’ll have more Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall guides in the coming days.

Stand Still

It might seem counter-intuitive, but sometimes the best thing to do is nothing at all. This is especially true at the start of a battle if there’s some distance between you and your foes. Let them come to you, rather than running into no-man’s-land and waiting to get hit.

There’s another upside of this as well. Your special moves charge up on the second turn, which means you can attack without the reprisals that come from standard attacks. Not moving isn’t always going to help, but there are some levels when it’s the best idea.

Use the Scenery

There are rewards for completing levels with three stars. They usually involve keeping all of your units alive, which is no small ask. One of the best way to do this is to use the scenery to your advantage. Hiding behind boxes is a perfectly legitimate strategy.

Different characters move in different ways, and most melee attackers won’t be able to hit you diagonally. Keeping out of reach of your foes and then darting in to attack is a brilliant way of staying alive and getting some kills.

If a unit looks like it’s going to die, then don’t be afraid about moving it out of harm’s way or putting something between it and the attacking forces.

Use Your Cards

It’s important to make sure your heroes are as tough as they can be. One way of doing that is using tactics cards. Head to the Hearth, tap on one of your heroes, and then tap on the card square near the bottom of their profile.

You’ll unlock a lot of cards, but you really only need to have one that goes well with your play-style. Burn the rest of the cards upgrading the one you want, but keep an eye out for new cards that are even more effective and swap them out if you need to.

Go on Expeditions

Going on expeditions is a great way to earn more rewards with very little effort. They unlock at level 15 and you can find them on the map of beyond the wall. You can send units on missions and they’ll come back replete with goodies.

Expeditions have different requirements – usually you’ll need a character from a specific place in Westeros, so it’s a good idea to make sure you’re bringing in fighters from across the continent when you send recruiters out from the lodge.

Unlock Your Heroes

Remember to spend everything you get. If there’s a red dot on something, then you’ve won a reward. There are achievements, daily tasks and more that give you rewards and you should get serious about completing them whenever you can.

When you’ve got coins that can summon heroes, tap on the Night’s Watch Oath in the bottom right corner of the screen. There you can spend the coins – you’ll get new characters, heroes and, if you get duplicates, you can strengthen up your existing team members as well.
