Anyone looking for a relaxing mobile gaming experience would do well to steer clear of Gestures – Tap Them Down. It is, without a doubt, one of the most stressful games you could hope to install on your phone, and will have you tearing out your hair within the first few levels.
The game is all about tapping – numbers flash up on a grid in the middle of the screen and you need to get rid of them before they explode. Everything looks a bit like a sci-fi panel from a nineties TV show, and the numbers are enemies you need to destroy.
That’s not all there is to it though – other things pop out of the grid, and you need to avoid touching them. There are traps and powerful foes, and a single poke will end your run with a red-glazed screen and an admonishment for doing it wrong.
You only have a brief window to clear each number, and if one of them explodes – yup, you guessed it – it’s game over. There’s no room for error here, but the game does give you bombs that damage everything in sight when you use them. Of course, after the first set, you need to spend coins to get more.
Gestures – Tap Them Down doesn’t pull any punches, refusing to let your heart rate drop for even a second. Massive boss enemies – red buttons with double digit numbers on them – start appearing, and clearing them and all of the other enemies that keep turning up can be so frantic that often you don’t know what you messed up until the game ends and tells you.
This is a decidedly blunt and brutal game, in everything that it does, but for all of that, there are few other games on the App Store that can keep you glued to the edge of your seat like Gestures – Tap Them Down does.
