We tend to think of pirates as badasses, but take away the things that make them scary – a cutlass, a sturdy schooner, and a salty crew – and they’re just as helpless as you or I. Probably more so, as they’re often missing a hand and/or a leg.

That’s what you’ll discover when you play Last Pirate: Survival Island, an innovative first-person open world survival game set on a desert island and starring, you guessed it, a pirate.

The basic set-up is that you’ve been washed up on an apparently uninhabited landmass. Armed with nothing but your wits and a hook, you need to stay alive.

That means drinking and eating. But you can’t eat just anything. Fruit may be wholesome and delicious, but it simply doesn’t have enough nutritional content to keep the engine of your body running, so you need to learn how to hunt and fish to supplement your foraged diet.

Just don’t forget to cook your meat before eating it.

Hunting comes with benefits beyond nutrition, since you can use the byproducts of the animals you eat for other things. The bones of wolves and chickens make for perfect crafting material.

Crafting is a huge part of your island experience. By collecting materials and crafting them you can equip yourself with all kinds of tools and weapons to help you stay alive, from campfires to shotguns.

And you’re really going to need those weapons, since your unfortunate pirate has worse things to worry about than getting hungry. There are zombies on your desert island, along with evil skeletons. When night falls all hell breaks loose.

Inspired by PC survival games like Rust and Sea of Thieves, Last Pirate: Survival Island is a gorgeous mobile game, with rich, detailed, console-quality graphics and a fun desert island aesthetic.
