When we think about MMORPGs, it tends to be games like World of WarCraft and Lord of the Rings Online that come to mind. But there are some incredible open-world multiplayer RPGs outside the world of western gaming, and Perfect World is a shining example.

Originally released in China in 2005, it was reimagined for mobile earlier this year to the unconcealed delight of every discerning RPG fan in existence.

The Chinese launch was a smash, seeing the game rocket to the number two spot in the App Store charts within five hours of going live. Within 12 hours it had attracted 2.6 million downloads. And now it’s North America’s turn.

Yep – as of September 4th, Perfect World Games’s classic MMO is available in the US.

In case you’re not up to speed, here’s why you should be excited. Perfect World is an MMORPG with a distinctive Chinese sensibility.

That means you’ll need to balance the forces of yin and yang, while using the flow of the five elements to meditate. The whole game is infused with Chinese mythology and spirituality, helping to distinguish it from the usual dragons and fairies stuff.

That said, there are fairies and dragons aplenty. Elves and monsters too. Perfect World Mobile is still a fantasy MMORPG after all.

Set in a vast 60,000 square kilometre panoramic 3D map, the game sees you waging wars, battling through dungeons, mentoring newbies, cooperating with other players across classes, creating parties, joining guilds, levelling up your chosen character, and much more.

The classes will be familiar to anybody who played the original game, and each one has its own distinct characteristics. Playable races include humans, Winged Elves, and of course the incorrigible Untamed.

A glance at the screenshots will tell you that Perfect World Mobile looks absolutely stunning, though you’ll have to see it in action to appreciate the real-time dynamic lighting and weather effects.

Perfect World Mobile is the first Xianxia (Chinese fantasy) MMORPG on mobile, and its heritage shines through. And as if that wasn’t enough of a reason to play it, you can also win a 64G iPhone XS for the first week. Visit the Facebook page here.

You can download Perfect World Mobile for free right now on Google Play and the App Store.
