Typoman is a cerebral platformer that plays a lot like LIMBO crossed with Scrabble. You have to help the wordy hero navigate an incredibly harsh environment using the power of the English language.

You’ll jump on and over stuff, push letters about, and swing from objects. Then there are a bunch of puzzles that you’ll have to solve by forming words out of environmental objects or out of other words just lying around.

It’s an odd little adventure that will particularly appeal to those that really like the type of games that Playdead put out. So everyone, basically. In this guide, we’re going to help you have an easier time with the platformer by providing a bunch of tips and tricks for you.

Typoman Tips and Tricks:

  • Look at the environment for clues: If you get stuck, scour the environment for clues. Particularly at the beginning, you should notice a word or two that provides a hint on how to progress.
  • Let the camera catch up: The camera is incredibly slow to follow you for some reason, which can be frustrating at times. We recommend letting it catch up if you progress too far to the right. That way, at least you’ll have a good idea about what’s coming up.
  • The controls are unresponsive: Much like the camera, the controls are pretty poor. That doesn’t help when you’re running away from a monster trying to kill you. Many times you’ll have to interact with objects while running too. Bear this in mind and take an extra second to be accurate – the alternative is death.
  • Keep an eye out for glowing quotation marks: Glowing quotation marks are the only collectible in Typoman, and they’re not particularly difficult to track down. Basically, at any point you can find a path off the beaten track, take it. Chances are you’ll find a collectable at the end of it.
  • Words solve most puzzles: If you ever get stuck, chances are there’s a word nearby that you can create to progress. Often the solution is just to create a word for the thing that you want to open. Locked gate? Create the word ‘Open’. Switch turned off? Create the word ‘On’. Don’t be afraid to backtrack a bit if you can’t find any letters either, as chances are you missed them earlier.
  • Carrying letters is much quicker: You can push or drag letters but why bother when carrying them is much quicker? Tap the button just to the lower left of the grab button to pick up the letter after grabbing it.
  • Throw them to save time: If you press that same button again while you’ve picked up a letter, you can throw it a safe distance. We recommend doing so as it will save you time versus running each individual letter into the place you need them to be.
  • You won’t win many fights, so run: Don’t even bother trying to jump on an enemy’s head or throwing letters at them. Most of the time, you just can’t win fights so run instead.
