Like all strategy-RPGs, Final Blade is a fearsomely complicated beast under its cartoony exterior, with an in-game economy of currencies, items, and upgrades that would confound a central bank chief.

This guide is aimed at helping you find your feet in the magical realm of Taemoon. It won’t get you to the end of the game, but it should at least point you in the right direction. We’ll start by looking at Adventure, the mode you’re going to be spending the most time on at first.

How to get started in Final Blade

Step 1 – Select a character

This is the first thing you’ll be asked to do. Each character has its own unique profile of strengths and weaknesses, so you should examine these to find a hero suited to your own playing style.

Step 2 – Play through the tutorial

Final Blade begins with a comprehensive tutorial. Here you’ll learn about spirits – glowing lights left behind by your fallen enemies. Collect these for Sapphires and Pearls. Soon you’ll get access to a Fairy, who hoovers up these spirits so you don’t have to.

While it’s possible to play manually, deploying your heroes’ skills as and when you see fit, it’s generally easier to select autoplay. Unfortunately you can’t collect spirits automatically, which is why you need the Fairy.

Step 3 – After the tutorial

Next, go to Guide from the main screen and work your way through the guides to claim all the Sapphires. Then head to the shop to summon another hero, giving you a full team of five. Note: you’ll need to actually add your newly summoned hero to your formation, by tapping on the Formation icon on the main screen.

After that, finish chapter one to earn a free x10 Summon ticket, before heading back to the shop to cash that in too.

And don’t forget the gear you earn in battle. You can enhance and sell gear items separately, but if you want to keep life simple just go to Manage, and then tap on the Gear tab, and hit AutoEquip. You will need to keep upgrading your gear to get the best out of it, though.

Step 4 – Hero’s Trail, Missions, Events, and Adventure

Next, hit the Event tab on the top-left of the main screen and complete the highlighted events to fill your. Go to Mission on the bottom to do the same, and then claim all the rewards in your mail inbox, which you can find on the top-right. You can also sell any unused gear you have.

Make sure you get three stars in every stage by levelling up your party and replaying any that you didn’t totally smash the first time around.

Step 5 – Unlock more content

As you level-up you’ll unlock different features of the game, such as Training, Battle, Clan, Duel, and Explore. These are all ways of changing up the gameplay and earning you more loot and XP. Make sure you join a clan as soon as you unlock that area of the game, as this will supercharge your progress.

Step 6 – Keep managing

Once you’ve accumulated 10k Sapphire visit the shop to summon heroes in bulk. With each successive summon you’ll save 10%, so it’s worth doing it this way.

Then, on the Manage page, start enhancing your heroes. It’s a good idea to start with your original crew (Inrang, Woohee, Yongju, Muchun, and Diane), and don’t bother enhancing weak or redundant heroes. Just use them as material.

Enhance your gear, too, again concentrating on the good stuff – tier 3 or above. You should also upgrade your skills and Formation at this point, to get you off to the best possible start.

A quick overview

Character class and selection

Final Blade contains a whole heap of unique characters, but they fall into five classes: Warrior, Assassin, Mage, Marksman, and Monk.

– Warriors are good all-rounders, offensively and defensively.

– Assassins are agile and devastatingly powerful.

– Mages dish out debuffs and other magical effects over a wide area.

– Marksmen are perfect at range, hanging back behind your party and sniping from a distance.

– Monks heal the other members of the party.

Spirits

Every enemy you kill in Adventure leaves a spirit behind. You can collect these to earn sapphires and pearls, which in turn you can spend on summoning more heroes. Spirits have to be collected manually, even in auto fight, but you can recruit a fairy to collect them for you using tickets or cash.

Enhancing and combining

Final Blade lets you enhance and combine your heroes by consuming other, lesser heroes. Each hero has its own enhance rate, based on its rarity and/or star level. The rarer the hero, the better its enhance rate.

If you manage to enhance two heroes to max level, you’ll be able to combine them to randomly create a new, rarer hero. That means you can start with two warriors and end up with a mage, for example, but you can always reroll if you don’t like what you end up with. Rerolling costs sapphires.

Training and clan training

The training mode unlocks after a few levels and lets you instantly give a hero a huge EXP boost. Each master can only be used once every few hours, but as you level up your characters you’ll unlock more masters.

You also get XP by joining a clan and training with your fellow clan members.

Equipment and awakening

Each character class has different sets of equipment which can also be categorized by grade and tier. There are five grades, and five tiers. In addition, you can enhance equipment up to ten levels using materials that you collect in the Daily Dungeon.

All equipment over tier 3 can be max enhanced and awakened.

Raid Boss

After you unlock the Battle second of the game you’ll get access to a variety of new modes. One of these is Raid Boss, which sees you summoning and defeating a powerful monster, such as the Eternal Fox.

Raid boss is PvE, and you can enlist the help of players from around the world to take your targets down and earn you piles of sweet loot, including materials with which to awaken your equipment.

Daily Dungeon

Also accessed in the Battle section, the Daily Dungeon gives you new trials to complete every day. You’ll need to stay on your toes to get the most out of these, maining tip top equipment and experimenting with different heroes.

Endless Tower

Endless Tower doesn’t unlock until level 15, and you need to be pretty tough to reach the top. It’s worth the effort, though, as you’ll earn abundant rewards in the form of gold, sapphires, gear, and even heroes.

Clan

As we’ve already mentioned, it’s worth joining a clan as soon as you can. Benefits include access to a variety of additional gameplay features, including Clan Raid, which lets you field nine heroes against a series of boses, Clan War, which sees you taking on other clans, a Clan Shop, where you can buy items with, what else, Clan currency, and Clan Training, which is a good way to earn extra XP in exchange for rice.

Use these tips for yourself by downloading Final Blade on the App Store and Google Play.
