We’ve all been there, eating something spicy and having to drop everything to get yourself a drink. Well, Spicy Piggy has to do a lot more than pour a glass of water, or milk depending on your pain threshold. Spicy Piggy needs to jump, slide and shoot his way through a series of convoluted levels to get his drink. Sounds interesting, but there is more to it if you want to three-star every level, keep reading to find out how.

Oink?!

The description in the app store is that Spicy Piggy is “The hardest platformer ever”, and they are not wrong. In fact, Spicy Piggy isn’t just difficult in terms of a dexterity challenge, it’s also demanding. When I say demanding, I mean completing a level isn’t enough for three stars instead, you need to set a blistering time, collect 50 chillies and reach the end.

Sounds good right? Well, allow me to reiterate what Nitrome have said rather bluntly. They did not make it easy if you are a casual player then I would recommend ditching the idea of getting three stars in every level. This way you won’t be disappointed by how much you struggle to do so. If you are like me and want to get three stars on every level, then these tips should help. Even if you aren’t bothered by maxing out every level, these tips will help.

Whoa there piggy

  • Set your sights on a prize. There are three things to do in every level. First, reach the end of the level without dying, you can watch videos or trade your chillies to re-spawn at a checkpoint. Second, a time trial where you need to blitz the entire level as quick as you can. The third is to collect 50 chilli peppers and reach the end. So aim to do one of these on each attempt, or even the peppers and complete the level in one.
  • Shoot at the Chillies. You have played too much Mario if you think the only way to pick up peppers is by physically running them over. To save time, shoot your fireballs at the peppers and it adds them to your tally. Use this method to grab any peppers out of reach.
  • Slide, slide and slide again. If you haven’t noticed it’s quicker to slide, then to walk. In your first few attempts at a level, it might be wise to ease off the sliding to avoid cheap deaths. But if you want to beat the time trial, you will need to slide like a madman.
  • Remember to have fun. If you are trying the same level repeatedly, it can become very frustrating, which is supposed to happen. The more frustrated you get, the more silly mistakes you’ll make creating a vicious cycle. So try to take breaks, it might even be for 5 seconds, but just take a deep breath and try again.
  • There are no mistakes in time trails. If you are wondering why you are so far off the time needed to three-star the level, it’s because you made a mistake. Mistakes include not sliding enough, sliding too much or mistiming your jumps. Doing just one of these is enough to ruin a run, meaning you won’t get three stars.

One last tip to remember is that you do not need to complete all three objectives in one life. You can do them in any order and with many attempts.
