Beat Cop is not your usual mobile title. It’s a premium experience with sky high production values. You play, as the title suggests, a beat cop.

Set in 80s New York you have a set street to protect. You do this by checking in on local properties, handing out parking tickets, and chasing after criminals. But there’s also an overarching ambition to clear your name after being framed for a murder.

It can all be a bit overwhelming at first – this is a game with a deceptive amount of depth. But don’t worry, here are a few pointers to make sure you give yourself the best possible chance of being a top cop.

  • Prioritise objectives You’ve always got things to do in Beat Cop, as our introduction above makes very clear. Make sure you complete your main objectives from your notepad each day though – listed in the exclamation mark tab – as the other stuff can always wait.
  • Don’t make rash decisions You work from 8am to 6pm, but when you’re talking with shop-owners and the like the clock stops ticking. So with that in mind don’t feel you need to rush through conversations, especially as this might mean you miss a detail that could be very important further down the line.
  • Factor in the factions One of the most important elements of the game are the three factions that populate the district – Police, Mob, and the Crew. Having a bad reputation with just one can see your career as a beat cop being very brief indeed. So make sure you stay in all of their good books, as it can open up several new exciting possibilities – including those of the less legal kind, if you’re so inclined.
  • Train yourself up You’ll find you’ll be rushing around a lot early on to complete all your objectives, but don’t worry – this is nigh-on unavoidable. This is because you’ll have low stamina when you start off, and you’ll need to run around lot to boost this – as well as make sure you eat in a few of the food outlets on the street.
  • Free food There are a lot of places you can eat at of course, but because money is tight – due to the alimony payments you have to make – you may prefer to rely on the free breakfasts you can grab at Moonwalk café. Doughnuts are something you can get for nothing as from the shop near the church too.
  • R.E.S.P.E.C.T Make sure you treat the local citizens well, as it means you can get free food – as described above – and it’ll just make your job that little bit easier in general.
  • Like a boss Make sure you take on board everything your sergeant says, as he’ll often give you new tasks to do – and often the objectives can be easy to misunderstand. So you could be asked to hand out a certain amount of parking tickets for instance, but only for a certain offence – such as running down the meter or broken headlights.
  • Spies are everywhere Listen to your sergeant, but your smart-ass colleagues can often be worth talking to as well. They can often tip you off to attacks on factions in your area for instance, which you can then prepare for accordingly.
  • Prove your guilt Ultimately the above will help you survive and possibly thrive while on the beat, but if you want to prove your innocence you’ll have to be incredibly patient. Often you’ll be waiting days for a break in the case, and if it involves meeting someone at a specific time make sure you make it. Missing such an appointment can push solving the case that much harder.
