After another fantastic year for mobile gaming, it’s time to look back at what made this year stand out from all the others. 2018 had it all, whether you were after a battle royale or a gorgeous hand-drawn puzzler there was no shortage of quality. In fact, I think it’s worth pointing out the gap between mobile games and their console counterpart has never been so small. But that’s enough speculation, let us get down to something we can all agree on, the best 25 mobile games of 2018.

  • Fortnite

Almost everybody on earth now knows about Fortnite and the dances that go with it. But Fortnite doesn’t make our list because of the many dances you can buy. It makes our top 25 for being one of the best consoles to mobile ports around. With the introduction of the creative game mode, there is even more to do than just outlive 100 other players. You have to see it to believe it, so why not try it today.

  • PUBG Mobile

If you like your battle royales realistic and tense, then perhaps PUBG Mobile is the one for you. Like Fortnite the aim of the game is to outlive 100 other individuals, but there is more to it than just surviving. If you have managed to go this long without playing either, then your new year’s resolution is to play both.

  • RuneScape: Old School

For many gamers Old School RuneScape had been and gone, but now it’s back and it’s the same as it always was. Trade on the Grand Exchange and run around the Wilderness until you are full of nostalgia for the glory days. If you never played RuneScape and want to know what it is, I can describe it as an epic RPG that set the tone for other role-playing games to follow. Essentially, if you are a fan of RPG’s then how could you not play this one?

  • Donut County

Donut County is an incredible puzzle game with charm and entertainment weaved into every scene. You would be surprised as to how enjoyable it is to force an entire environment down a sinkhole. I have nothing but good things to say about Donut County, if you are looking for a short, cheap thrill, then this is the one for you.

  • Florence

Florence is an incredible interactive story where you can feel the emotion and chemistry ooze through the characters. There is too much to mention for this game, so if you are a fan of a good story or looking for some entertainment then this one is for you.

  • Alto’s Odyssey

Alto’s Odyssey is a standalone adventure where high-quality graphics and gameplay go hand in hand. If you haven’t played the first Alto game, then you are in for a treat. Both adventures are extremely well regarded and rather enjoyable, so they are definitely worth your time if you haven’t played them already.

  • Shadowgun Legends

If you are looking for a great FPS (first-person shooter) with a cracking single player campaign, competitive PvP and a cooperative multiplayer. Shadowgun Legends is the game that keeps on giving with hours of entertainment at your fingertips.

  • The Room: Old Sins

I mentioned The Room: Old Sins in my list of games to play on your new devices. I am mentioning it again here because it really was a brilliant story-driven puzzler. So if you have a hankering for complex puzzles and suspenseful gameplay, The Room is perfect for you.

  • Brawl Stars

Brawl Stars is the latest PvP battler from the great minds at Supercell. If you are unaware of what else Supercell has created, perhaps you have heard of Boom Beach, Clash of Clans and Clash Royale. So, if you fancy top quality PvP action that doesn’t take itself too seriously, then brawl away.

  • Reigns: Game of Thrones

Looking to get in the mood for Game of Thrones? Then Reigns: Game of Thrones is the one for you. Take on the Iron Throne as one of the main characters from the award-winning series, including Cersei Lannister, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen.

  • Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition

Our list so far we have looked for the best as well as the most beautiful. With Bacon – The Game simplicity is the beauty. A simple puzzler with a lot of charm and quality is more than enough to earn its way onto this list.

Oddmar is a beautiful mix of platforming and puzzles tied together with stunning graphics and a quirky story. Platformers are nothing new to the world of mobile gaming, however Oddmar brings enough to the table to keep even the most demanding gamers entertained.

  • Battleheart 2

Battleheart 2 is a fantastic sequel to an incredible RPG adventure game. Build a squad of the very best heroes in order to take on hoards of enemies. There are plenty of upgrades and things to do to keep you busy this New Year, so why not try it.

  • Gorogoa

Gorogoa is a stunning hand-drawn puzzler with charm, quality and content all beautifully crafted into one game. Any fan of puzzle games will respect and enjoy everything Gorogoa offers, it really is a highlight in this year’s world of mobile gaming.

  • Grimvalor

Everybody loves a good old hack and slash, and with Grimvalor you don’t have to settle for anything less. A fantastic combination of timing and skill is needed to master this platformer, so try this at your own risk.

We’ve covered a lot of different genres in this list of the best mobile games 2018, but few have focused on relaxation. ELOH is a stunning relaxation focused music puzzle game where the aim of the game is to get you into the groove.

It wouldn’t have been a complete list without mentioning this stunning simulation game. Take on a BitLife and achieve your wildest dreams whether its worldwide fame or a vast fortune, Bitlife has it all.

2018 was a fantastic year for mobile gaming, we can only hope that next year will be just as good if not better. But if recent trends are anything to live by, 2019 will be the best year for mobile gaming yet.
