Bike Unchained 2 is the latest downhill peddler created by Red Bull. The aim of the game is simple, cycle downhill as quickly as you can to earn as much loot as possible. Once you have earned your loot, upgrade it to go a little bit faster each time and reduce your time. Gameplay is simple and intuitive with one-touch controls that allow you to play anywhere with good internet connection. Below you’ll find a series of tips and hints to help you peddle your way to the top of the leader-board.

  • Take note of the tutorial. The tutorial breaks down all the controls you’ll need for the entire game. This includes: pressing and holding to coast down hills, tapping the screen to peddle up a steep hill, and letting go when downhill turns to uphill. These controls have been made to accommodate one-handed gameplay, so it’s important to get to grips with them now, although practise does make perfect.

  • Keep it simple! This does sound self-explanatory, but it’s easy to let your mind wander and try and do too much on one level. Unless a hill is really steep, you won’t need to mash your screen to peddle, instead just simply build up speed from the hill before and coast over the crescent. If you start to peddle on hills that don’t need peddling you will lose a large amount of your speed. Just keep looking ahead and don’t rush to peddle if you don’t need to.
  • Take note of the terrain. This tip applies in two ways, the first being if you spot a large hill then expect to peddle for it. The second being, taking note of the textures on the ground in front of you. Most tracks are spent constantly holding down on the screen, which means you are coasting and not peddling. However, at several points on each track, you will have to ease off because a hill is incoming. How do you know if it’s a hill besides the obvious? Well, the ground will darken whenever there is an incline that requires you to lift off. Once you start spotting these dark patches, you’ll know how much of the course you can coast, and when to lift off without losing too much speed.

  • Earn crates, as much as possible. Although you can only start the unlocking process one at a time for each crate, you should still have a backlog of crates waiting to be opened. Inside each crate is the opportunity to get some good equipment or the chance to upgrade what you’ve already got. So keep earning and opening crates whenever you can.
  • Upgrade your loot. Once again this may sound obvious but there is a reason why you should upgrade what you’ve got. Upgrades are often very cheap, around five coins to upgrade the most basic loot. This means that loot that was once inferior to what you just uncrated is now superior because you upgraded it. It’s silly to use equipment that isn’t your best, so my advice is to upgrade everything whenever you can, and then you can choose your best setup.

  • Maximise your speed. The point of downhill events is to get to the bottom of the hill as quickly as possible, meaning you don’t want to lose speed anywhere. In order to carry speed throughout the level, you’ll need to avoid anything that will slow you down. For example, peddling when not going uphill, pressing and holding on the screen while going uphill and staying in the air for too long. In downhill events, you’ll want to land as quickly as possible to not lose any speed while falling.

  • Timing is everything. Obviously, in downhill mode, you want to go down the hill as quickly as possible. This is accomplished by timing exactly when you need to start and stop coasting and when to land your jumps. When you first start playing, you’ll be coasting longer than you need to, and pumping when you shouldn’t, but that’s okay, you just need to refine when to stop coasting and when to start pumping. So keep an eye on the floor, if the dirt darkens then you should lift off from coasting. If your bike looks like its slowing then start pumping ASAP. After you’ve played for a while you’ll get better at spotting these signs and you’ll be able to reduce the amount of time lost.
  • Rank up! When you start the game, you are only able to compete in bronze events. This shouldn’t be surprising as you’re a new player to the downhill world however, this does mean that the loot you’ll be earning is the worst in the game. Therefore, you should aim to rank up as quickly as possible, this way you’ll start earning a lot more loot at a more valuable rate.

  • Get ready for tricks. Most of you novices won’t need to worry about this one, but once you rank to silver you will unlock a new type of event called Slopestyle. In this event, you perform tricks rather than just a sprint to the bottom. This means you’ll need to plan what tricks you’re going to do before you try them out in the main event. Certain jumps allow for better tricks than others, but this doesn’t mean you should always aim for the best trick you can do. Landing tricks build up speed, so if you fail a trick beforehand it will impact your ability to perform a trick for the next jump. So be prepared to adapt, and don’t forget to apply boosters at the start of the run to make performing tricks easier.
