Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery largely lives up to the hype with which it arrived, which in turn was driven by the fact that it has been a long wait for a title like this. It might not go down as the best Harry Potter video game ever, but it offers some stretches of fun that you won’t find anywhere else, and the guess here is that Jam City will be dreaming up more to throw into its world for some time to come.

What’s energy in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery?

You need energy to perform pretty much every task in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, from conversing with your fellow students to casting spells, and defeating nasty plants with giant teeth.

I guess that makes sense, since you also need energy to perform actions in real life. But really, the energy system is here to try and coax you into spending money. Stay strong, and be patient.

That being said, you can earn energy in various different ways that don’t involve spending money. These include:

  • Waiting patiently for it to recharge.
  • Participating in activities and selecting energy as a reward.
  • Levelling up.
  • Spending gems to recharge your energy.

You can also earn free energy every six hours by finding various special locations in Hogwarts. These include:

  • Blank portraits in the west and east tower.
  • The torch on the right hand side of the great hall.
  • A stack of books on the east side of the lower floor.
  • The second in a row of sword-holding knights on the western side of the lower floor.
  • A stick on the ground in the castle grounds.
  • Any house elves you come across.

How do I earn house points in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery?

You can earn house points by performing well in classes, completing story quests, and behaving appropriately during conversations. This will differ depending on your house. Basically, if you’re in Gryffindor, behave like a Gryffindor student would.
