Interlinked play between console titles and mobile devices hasn’t quite taken off the way some of us here at Gamezebo were hoping just a few years ago, but that hasn’t stopped some console developers from creating some pretty nifty companion apps. The Destiny Companion app (or just plain old Destiny on Google Play, which hopefully didn’t fool anyone into thinking they could play the actual game on their phone) is one of those, putting useful info at your fingertips when you’re not playing.

Of course, Destiny is about to make way for Destiny 2, so it only makes sense the app would need to evolve to reflect that. Happily, that’s exactly what it’s doing later this week, according to our friends at Touch Arcade. The Destiny Companion app will change its focus to Destiny 2 on August 23, enabling you to keep up with news and in-game events from your phone.

You’ll also be able to create or join Clans through the app, text chat with fellow Clan members, track progression and shared rewards and more. TA also says the app will retain some of its original functionality for the sequel, including the ability to examine your character and his/her loadout and find players to group with for Fireteams.

The update comes just in time, too, because Destiny 2 is slated for a worldwide launch on PS4 and XBox One on Sept. 6. That gives you a bit of time to get familiar with the Destiny Companion before release day, so be sure to check it out if you’re planning on getting the console game.
