Miitomo, Nintendo’s first app for smart devices will be available in the United States this Thursday, March 31. First released in Japan on March 17, the social app lets users create a Mii, Nintendo’s proprietary stylized avatar, to connect with friends for what Nintendo promises to be “one-of-a-kind conversations.” Use the camera on your device to generate a face and customize facial features like eyes and hair. Or you can import your existing Mii from your Wii U or Nintendo 3DS systems using a QR Code. Customize your voice and personality, fill out your profile, then go find some friends to hang out with in your Miitomo room.
Through your Mii and the Mii of your friends, Miitomo will prompt questions, spark conversations, and offer opportunities to learn and share new things. Earn coins within Miitomo by completing social missions like adding friends or connecting your social media accounts. Use your coins in the shop to create outfits unique to your style or to play Miitomo Drop, the app’s minigame. The app is “free-to-start” with options to purchase coins to spend within the store.
“With Miitomo, Nintendo takes its first step into the world of smart devices,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “Miitomo brings the special Nintendo charm and polish that people around the world love to an entirely new format and audience.”
If you want to be among the first to get access to Miitomo as soon as it’s available (along with other perks such as Platinum Points for Nintendo’s new rewards program) you can preregister here. Look forward to further Gamezebo coverage of Miitomo after it’s available later this week.
