Not too long ago, Kabam announced a commitment to making fewer games at a higher quality — and thus far it’s panned out wonderfully for gamers. From Marvel Contest of Champions to Fast & Furious Legacy, the studio has proven they can bring gorgeous games with console-style appeal to the mobile masses.

And nothing says “mass appeal” quite like Star Wars.

Announced just weeks ago, Star Wars Uprising was described as an RPG with deep customization that would help fill in some of the gaps between Return of the Jedi and JJ Abrahams’ upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The one word that was missing from that description? “Action.”

Kabam released a minute’s worth of gameplay footage from Star Wars Uprising today, and what’s on display looks an awful lot like the action-RPG genre popularized on desktops by games like Diablo and Torchlight. If you’re worried about how well that will translate to mobile, don’t panic — Kabam has already proven deft at the formula with the release of the free-to-play Spirit Lords earlier this year.

Bonus fact: you’ll be able to enjoy the game’s laser-based hack’n’slashery with a friend. Star Wars Uprising will feature synchronous, real-time co-op.

There’s still no word on a release date, so you’ll have to keep your blaster holstered for a little while longer. Star Wars Uprising is exected to hit iOS and Android devices later this year.
