Even by conventional gaming standards, 5 years is a long time to develop a single game. But for a mobile game? That’s practically unheard of.

And there there was Heroki.

We first caught wind of the game here at Gamezebo in early 2012, two years into development and when the game’s release seemed pretty much imminent. Since that time, Heroki has gone to the back of our mind alongside other long-ago-announced, still-being-worked-on-but-never-actually-releasing-games like Galactic Keep. But today, word broke that it’s finally time to think about Heroki again. The game is coming — soon — and it’s being published by SEGA.

Judging from the trailer, it looks like Heroki should deliver old school platforming sensibilities rethought from the ground up for a mobile audience. It’s a side-scrolling title with joyful, friendly 3D environments. In other words, it’s not hard to see why SEGA wanted to get in on this. It looks like the games of their heyday come to life in 2015.

There’s no set release date quite yet, but with a publisher attached we’re remaining optimistic. Hopefully we’re talking weeks instead of months or years.

Heroki will be launching on the App Store soon for $7.99, and will be an iOS exclusive.
