With E3 in full swing, we had expected a Thursday morning drought on the App Store. But as it turns out, there are more than a few developers not afraid of the big bad Entertainment Expo. Heck – in the case of Fallout Shelter, its meteoric rise is arguably the result of E3.

If you’re not lucky enough to be on the convention floor this week, don’t worry — there’s plenty of new iOS gaming fun you can have at home.

Fallout Shelter

What can we say about Fallout Shelter that hasn’t already been said? It’s only been out for a few days, and yet it’s already #3 on the App Store’s Top Grossing chart. Set in the world of Fallout, you get to be the Overseer of your very own vault in this surprisingly deep spin on games like Tiny Tower. If you’re already playing, be sure to bookmark our tips on getting dwellers and earning caps.

The creator of Dawn of the Plow is back, and this time he has a fiery whip he’d like you to crack. This one is all about spinning and swiping to create just the right motion to wipe out your foes. BONUS: after each run, you can create an animated gif of your experience to share on Twitter.

Pixelbite makes great games. If you don’t believe me, just go play Reckless Racing or the oft-forgotten genius of Reckless Getaway. Xenowerk equips you with a gun and a flashlight as you explore deep into an underground science lab.

Swing Racers

Imagine racing your Hot Wheels around a track using nothing but your imagination and a rubber band. That, in a nutshell, is Swing Racers.

Space Galaga International Edition

This isn’t the first Galaga mashup we’ve seen on the App Store, but this one (combining itself with the anime Space Dandy) promises to introduce something genuinely exciting to the franchise: the ability to collect parts and create your own custom fighter.

Pocket Hamlet

pocket hamlet

If you’re a fan of city-builders and keep waiting for a fresh take on the genre, this might be it. With old school graphics and a focus on resource gathering and minigames, Pocket Hamlet is trying to break the “just remake CityVille” mold that we’ve been seeing for half a decade.

Star Wars – Heroes Path

star wars a heroes path

A puzzle game that retells the story of A New Hope over dozens of levels? I think Disney just broke the needle on my nerd-o-meter.

Beast Bound

We’re not quite sure how this one works, but we’re eager to find out. Developer JB Gaming are promsing a “classic, story-driven, turn based RPG,” but it’s also a free download? Interesting! The iTunes description insists you need a love for words, so if you’re an RPG fan, you know it’s already on the right path.

Inside Out Thought Bubbles

inside out thought bubbles

Big summer movies need free mobile games, and considering how well Disney has done with the match-3 genre in their “Free Fall” releases, I suppose it was only a matter of time until they tried bubble bursting.

RESCUE: Heroes in Action

A popular PC simulation comes to mobile for the first time. Only you can prevent forest (city, farm, etc..) fires.

Slingo Shuffle

slingo shuffle

GameHouse are now the keepers of the Slingo brand, and this week they’ve launched a mobile game to let players dive into their favorite mix of bingo and slots again. There have been more than a few great Slingo mobile titles over the years — is Slingo  Shuffle ready to join that pantheon? It won’t cost you a dime to find out.

Trappy Tomb

trappy tomb

How quickly can you crawl a dungeon for treasure, avoid traps, and get out safely? With the threat of a lava-filled death nipping at your heels, you should hope the answer to our question is “very.”
