New iOS Games Tonight: Angry Birds Star Wars II, Infinity Blade III and more!

While most gamers out there this week are still trying to catch up on all of the lost sleep from Grand Theft Auto V‘s big midnight release, I’ve been drinking obscene amounts of caffeine in preparation for another big midnight release: all of tonight’s new iOS games!

So don’t mind me if I seem a little tired tomorrow (or ifI make somecarelesss mistackes in mye diting), because I’m going to be up all night flinging birds past the boundaries of space, slashing my way through the next generation of mobile gaming, and rolling my robot pal down all sorts of winding tracks in the name of science and technology. And the best news of all is that I don’t even have to go out in the cold and stand in some long line; all you need for the midnight release of a new mobile game is a nice comfy couch and a warm pair of pajamas!

Angry Birds Star Wars II – There’s nothing quite like the unbridled excitement and anticipation of knowing that a new Angry Birds game is right on the horizon! And tonight’s next installment in the mobile powerhouse franchise is certainly no exception, as our ill-tempered feathered friends prepare to take on the original Star Wars trilogy in Angry Birds Star Wars II. This time around, Rovio is gearing up to give us more playable characters than ever before in a main Angry Birds game, and a recent partnership with Hasbro will be bringing a new line of “Telepod” toys that can be used in conjunction with the actual game for a few extra surprises – another first for the popular physics-based puzzle series. May the feathers be with you tonight!

Infinity Blade III – Okay, so this one might be cheating a little bit, as Infinity Blade III has already made its way onto the App Store earlier this very morning; but I like to think of it as Christmas coming early instead. And what a stunningly breathless and action-packed Christmas that truly turns out to be! First announced alongside Apple’s big reveal of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C last week, the dynamic third installment in the popular fighting series is looking to take mobile gaming to the next elevated level. Also, I have to say I’m really digging the whole Roman numerals thing we’ve got going on in this games list so far: almost as much as I love those stunningly gorgeous visuals in Infinity Blade III. And hey, at least you won’t have to wait until midnight now to enjoy them in all of their glory!

Orborun – Have you ever wondered what it might have been like if Valve’s puzzling classic Portal was released as a mobile game, and borrowed a few pages from the endless running book? Well tonight you might get your wish, as Orborun from Tiny Lab Productions and BulkyPix looks to take one of your robot pals from the co-op portion of Portal 2, roll them into a tightly compact metal ball, and let them loose on a number of science-inspired tracks that could have easily made their home in a Super Monkey Ball game. In addition to exhilarating power-ups and optional challenges to complete, you’ll also run into your fair share of obstacles as well, like massive pitfalls and strategically placed cubes (although these cubes don’t have those endearing hearts on their side).

Riddick: The Merc Files – Antiheros are all the rage this gaming season, and some would even say that there’s no finer antihero than Riddick, as he constantly flees from a group of mercenaries and bounty hunters who are intent on taking him down. In Riddick: The Merc Files, players will have the option to use stealth to sneak by their enemies and complete their objectives, or to go in with guns blazing and make your presence immediately known. What’s more, all of the gameplay is said to be executed with simply two-finger touch controls, and a depth of experience that mirrors Riddick’s own intricate past. The game is also being brought to us from the creators of the cult-classic FPS The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay from 2004.
