Greenlight Spotlight: Stranded Deep

When it comes time to crank up the creepiness, most games take the supernatural route and introduce haunted houses, abandoned asylums, or dark forests with eerie shadows. We won’t argue that being chased by Slenderman isn’t terrifying, but Ben4View is promising something uniquely unsettling with its upcoming adventure horror game Stranded Deep.

The story begins with you, a lone survivor of a plane crash, floating in the middle of the Indian Ocean on a life raft. A few items are scattered about with a few more floating just out of reach. Sharks are also in the water, circling your position and hoping you’ll be their next meal. You can’t sit here on the raft forever, but getting those items means taking a swim. Looks like you have a decision to make: starvation, or face the sharks?

Stranded Deep hopes to find an audience by keeping gameplay tightly focused on a few basic elements and leaving the human mind to do the rest. You couldn’t possibly be more alone out here on this raft. You don’t even have solid land to stand on. Death will find you one way or another, but the decisions you make could prolong your life for another minute, another hour, another day, and maybe long enough to find your way home.

Most of Stranded Deep’s features are still under wraps, but the team is promising meaningful decisions to make and a tense survival horror experience. Taking out the supernatural elements has given it the freedom to explore a deeper level of terror, and let’s be honest, sharks are far scarier than ghosts.
