A supernatural adventure game that promises to be equal parts spooky and silly.

Mary is a teenager struggling to survive on the streets of 19th-century London, afflicted by dreams of her young sister Emily, who was lost to her in a deadly train crash. Or was she? Driven by her visions, she sets out to determine the truth once and for all.

With a setup like that, Haunted sounds like pretty heavy stuff, but developer dtp Entertainment says the journey between the realms of the living and the dead will actually be “sidesplitting,” with a cast of oddball, otherworldly characters that includes an obscure professor, an ax-wielding henchman and even a werewolf. Along with long-ago London, you’ll also travel through Scotland and Transylvania, two other locales famous for their frights, and even take a trip through a goldfish bowl. I have no idea how that’s going to work, but I’m sure looking forward to finding out.

Haunted

Haunted will feature all the usual adventure game puzzles and challenges, but also include a three-step help feature that ensures nobody will be stuck for long. You’ll meet more than 30 highly-detailed characters in the game, including six “supernatural assistants” who will use their powers to help you along your journey.

Haunted was originally released in Germany last year and while it’s hard to tell what anyone is talking about (unless you happen to be fluent in German, that is), the original trailers available on YouTube look sharp, as do the screenshots for the English release. Germany is very much the home of the adventure genre in the 21st century, particularly adventures built around off-the-wall humor, and Haunted looks set to carry on that tradition in fine form.

The English language edition of Haunted comes out on December 11, exclusively for the PC.
