Forge & Fortune Preview

Historians don’t talk about it much, but in the long-ago times, medieval wars were primarily fought with warriors and monsters that were summoned via playing cards. That’s right. Dragons, werewolves, and fish-people were called up from the abyss with cards that were used for simple games of Old Maid during the daylight hours, and the monsters would lay waste to legions of foot soldiers.

Forge & Fortune lets you summon warriors to the battlefield using decks of cards

All right. That never happened, and if you tell your history teacher that the Hundred Years War was brought to an end by Bahamut’s fiery breath, he or she will kill you. It makes for a fun fantasy, though, so go ahead and get excited for Forge & Fortune.

Forge & Fortune is a card-based role-playing game. You gear up for an epic quest across a war-torn land, and, of course, your monster-summoning deck rides shotgun. As you play, you gather more hero cards (with more on the way, according to Griptonite Games), which are used to take down big bad boss monsters. The usual evil beasties are all on hand, including werewolves, fire elementals, dragons, and minotaurs. Your roster of heroes includes thieves, warriors, mages, and barbarians, all of whom can be trained to excel in the art of butt-kicking.

Forge & Fortune will be a free-to-play game, so you can pay real-world cash to get a leg-up on the bad guys. The game should hit the App Store soon, so go ahead and practice by attempting to summon a demon with your pack of Bicycle playing cards.
