Kickstarter Picks: David Crane’s Jungle Adventure

Ever find yourself missing Pitfall? And no, we aren’t talking about the very recently released Activision Temple Run clone. We’re talking the original action platformer that revolutionized exploration games on the Atari 2600. It seems that since his incredible entrance into the world of gaming, sequels and development haven’t been so kind of our good adventurer Pitfall Harry in terms of a full-fledged sequel.

Sometimes, at the hardest times, it’s best to cut off old ties and start something new. That’s exactly what Jungle Venture is attempting in David Crane’s Jungle Adventure, a new Kickstarter project run by the man behind Pitfall! himself.

Jungle Adventure (a tentative title) aims to answer the all-important question: “what would a great jungle adventure game look like if it was made today?” It might not look like it now, but Pitfall! was actually a brilliant technological example in its time. David Crane hopes to recreate that same feeling of wonder and spectacle of his original title.

In addition to the promise of a deep, engrossing, and beautiful side-scrolling adventure, the entire game development process is going to be captured, thanks to a partnership with GameTrailers. If this series can deliver at even a fraction of what we’ve seen so far from the Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter, we can’t wait to see what comes out of it.

Jungle Adventure has a ton of promise, and it’s setting itself up with a realistic funding goal of $900,000. Luckily, they’ve got plenty of reward tiers for all kinds of interested parties to help chip away at that goal, including $15 for the game, $25 to include the documentary, $500 to have your likeness included in the game, and $10,000 for a complete lunch with Crane and friends during the development process.

Can David Crane emerge from the jungles of the past, in order to enter the jungle of the future? Only time will tell.
