The classic card game just got personal

When someone says Gameloft, what’s the first thought to jump into your head? Whether you’re a supporter or hater of Gameloft’s strategy, it’s nearly impossible for something along the lines of “console experiences on mobile devices” to come up. With a combination of mobile titles modeled after nearly every blockbuster film this summer (including Men in Black, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Dark Knight Rises), it’s easy to forget one of Gameloft’s largest franchise deals: Uno.

The enormous Mattel card game franchise has seen itself on just about every major platform in one form or another, and Gameloft decided that it was about time all of those versions converged into one friendly platform. The appropriately titled Uno & Friends aims to take Gameloft’s successful Uno game and make it easier than ever to play in a multiplayer setting.

Currently, Uno & Friends is aimed to release for nearly every major platform, including iOS, Android, Facebook, Nintendo 3DS, and PS Vita. In addition to guaranteeing an enormous audience of active players, Gameloft aims to take full advantage of its social features.

Users will be able to challenge up to three other players, while being able to communicate through text and voice mid-game. Because who doesn’t want to curse in frustration when your opponent grabs that one +4 card they desperately needed?

“UNO® is a world-renowned brand, and Gameloft is thrilled to be working with such a respected company as is Mattel on this ambitious project,” says Gonzague de Vallois, Senior Vice President of Publishing at Gameloft. “As our goal is to revolutionize the way people play UNO® this new game and its new social features will be at the heart of UNO® & Friends.”

Uno & Friends is slated for a release later this year, while the 3DS and Vita versions will join the fray in Spring 2013. If all goes well, this is very likely another huge addition for more universal cross-platform titles.
