A graphical extravaganza

You know what they say: Work with the bull(dog) and you’ll get the Horn. And now that I’ve written the greatest pun in the history of ever, let me tell you a little about one of the more exciting reveals from Zynga’s Unleashed event. Developed by Phosphor Games, the makers of the visually impressive Dark Meadow, Horn is one of the first games to take advantage of the new Zynga Partners for Mobile platform.

Phosphor was inspired to make the game after observing a dearth of action-adventure games in the mobile arena, as well as the lack of games tailored to appeal to console gamers. It tells the story of a young boy who wakes up in his home village after a 1,000 year sleep, only to find that it’s overrun with dangerous creatures. It’s up to him to discover a cure to the curse that’s inflicted his people, and return things to the way they were.

The trailer makes it clear that the game will vibe with Phosphor’s focus on bringing console-esque visuals to mobile devices. It will also be all sorts of epic, if the Shadow of the Colossus-esque enemy is anything to go by. It has all the trimmings of a game that could appeal to console gamers, though I suspect Phosphor will be sure to keep the casual audience in mind as well while they work on it.

Details are scarce at the moment, but the game’s trailer mentions the words “cross-platform,” leading me to believe that it will arrive on both iOS and Android. It’s especially likely given their involvement with Zynga, a company who loves releasing their games on every platform possible. No matter where it ends up, I’m excited to see how well Horn manages to bridge the gap between the smartphone/tablet and console markets.
