Wawa Land Preview

Far, far away—or maybe as close as your iOS device—there is a serene, colorful world that’s ruled justly by a glob of jelly. Alas, the Royal Jelly is kidnapped by critters one warm afternoon. Why? Well, because plain, dry toast is horrid. Regardless, it’s never a good idea to eat a country’s king, so it’s up to a furry creature named Wawa to run and jump to the rescue in Wawa Land.

Wawa Land for iOS is all about running, jumping, and rescuing Jelly Kings

Far, far away—or maybe as close as your iOS device—there is a serene, colorful world that’s ruled justly by a glob of jelly. Alas, the Royal Jelly is kidnapped by critters one warm afternoon. Why? Well, because plain, dry toast is horrid. Regardless, it’s never a good idea to eat a country’s king, so it’s up to a furry creature named Wawa to run and jump to the rescue in Wawa Land.

Wawa Land is a 2D iOS platforming game by Play Fripp. Play Fripp is aiming to deliver a “console experience” on iOS via a deep, bright universe that’s swarming with enemy critters, as well as secrets and bonuses. The game’s graphics are cute and well-animated, and its soundtrack is catchy. Wawa Land is essentially a love letter to the era of 16-bit side-scrollers.

Wawa’s adventure takes him across the land, deep under water, and even sky-high. He can grab several power-ups to help him out, including the Tornado’s Helmet (which lets him spin, spin, spin), and the Pirate’s Scarf (we don’t know what this does, but we presume it lets Wawa put on an eyepatch and say “Arr!” a lot). Wawa also has the usual repertoire of action hero moves, including the ability to climb up walls to reach high places, and the ability to pound the ground to shake up enemies.

Wawa Land is engineered to appeal to newbies and platforming veterans alike, so you’re sure to find something you like. You can make personal friends with Wawa when Wawa Land hits the App Store on April 17.
