Them’s fightin’ words
After the release of Sissy’s Magical Ponycorn Adventure (which we personally loved), it became quite clear that Untold Entertainment wasn’t afraid to try something new. This is still the case with the company’s upcoming Spellirium, which is set to combine adventure and strategy with a word game, a la Boggle or Bookworm.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world called “The Land,” you’ll play as Todd, a Runekeeper, who heads out to investigate the death of his brother while gaining help from a wide variety of characters along the way. Reading and writing have been outlawed in this new society, so you’ll use your powers of language to battle foes, complete puzzles and more.
The unique gameplay here will see you creating words based on your surroundings or current task. For instance, if you are required to shear a sheep, you’ll need to spell words associated with that action: Shear, Clip, Trim, Cut and so on. In terms of battling, you’ll be able to look at the color of your foe for inspiration. A green enemy, for instance, could be bested by spelling words using green tiles on the board.
Each and every word used is stored in an in-game dictionary, which will give you the overall challenge of completing the 50,000 entries like you would collect Pokemon. Words can even be used as currency to buy ingredients that can be combined to form various power-ups (the effects of which are still unknown).
Spellirium is set to release sometime this year on both PC and Mac. Make sure to follow the game right here on Gamezebo to know when you can be the first to jump into this “trashpunk” world where literacy is the name of the game.
