It takes two people to make beautiful music–or maybe it takes two thousand people. Cipher Prime, the studio behind the hit music-puzzle game Auditorium is running a Kickstarter in hopes of securing funding for its next big dream: Auditorium 2: Duet.
Auditorium, which was developed in 2008 for Flash and subsequently ported across other platforms, instructs players to “fill” on-screen containers by re-directing glowing streams of sound. If the containers are filled simultaneously, the tune for that particular level is revealed. It’s a concept that could potentially thrive under a two-player formula, and that’s what Cipher Prime is hoping to develop for the PC and Mac if its Kickstarter is successful.
Cipher Prime intends to build Auditorium 2: Duet from the ground-up as a stand-alone game, which will take considerable time and money. The studio is hoping to raise $60,000 USD, which will let the team throw all its energy into development and testing, and will also pay for the company’s overhead.
If the Kickstarter garners enough cash, Cipher Prime will begin a development process that it expects will take about six months. The game’s new two-player formula will be accompanied by an expanded game space wherein you control your own field, but your actions will impact your partner’s display. The “goal” of Auditorium 2 is to work in literal harmony with your partner, either locally or over a network connection. Of course, you still have the option of breaking up the band and going solo, if that’s what you prefer. You rugged lone wolf, you.
