You may still be enjoying your new Lighthouse Cove farm, but soon Zynga will be unveiling yet another expansion for FarmVille, and this time it’s holiday-themed. Starting December 5 the new Winter Wonderland farm will be available, but we’ve had the chance to check it out. Read on for our impressions.
The most striking aspect of the new farm, of course, is the visual change. Look, it’s snow! Not surprising on a farm named Winter Wonderland. Pretty much every new item, building, or animal has been infused with holiday cheer, from the ducks wearing Christmas sweaters and the mammoths in Santa hats, all the way to the gingerbread crops and candycane fences.
The farm itself is actually set-up quite a bit like Lighthouse Cove with a water feature that is actually part of the game board and that can be harvested. Except in this case, the water is frozen and has a train running over it. Winter Wonderland is much lighter on story than previous expansions, but it does feature some new characters, including the snowman conductor who brings you into town in the first place.
There are a number of presents around the farm as well, though each one is encased in ice. The only way to get these items is by melting the ice with hairdryers, which can either be gifted or purchased with Farm Cash. There are a lot of them though, so Winter Wonderland is definitely best enjoyed with a number of friends to swap items with. This is equally true for the new buildings in the game, like the winter animal pen or the holiday barn, which require gifted items to complete.
Winter Wonderland doesn’t add any groundbreaking features to FarmVille, but it does provide a nice visual change of pace just in time for the holidays. And for those who are already bored with the English Countryside and Lighthouse Cove expansions, Winter Wonderland features a number of new items, building, animals, and crops to buy and collect.
The new expansion will be available Monday December 5 for all players level 15 or higher.
