Spellcraft: School of Magic looks to put the RPG back into social RPG this November
New schools are always tough to settle in to. As if it’s not tough enough to make new friends, find your way through an unfamiliar classroom layout, and figure out just what all the cool kids are wearing, Spellcraft: School of Magic is throwing a few extra twists and turns your way via a missing faculty and hungry monster population.
The upcoming social RPG casts you (pun intended) as a young student wizard who’s just arrived at “the multiverse’s most prestigious magical university.” Unfortunately the teachers have disappeared, trapped in the dungeons that run beneath the school. To make matters worse, it turns out that the dungeons are overrun with monsters, so now the students have to take up the fight if they want to keep the forces of evil at bay.
The gameplay is described as a mix of Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering. After you create your wizard and deck him out with clothing, accessories, and —if you want— a pet, you start harvesting plants in order to create spells (the recipes for which are listed in your spell book).
Once you’ve crafted enough spells to keep you safe, it’s off to the dungeon, where you’ll explore each chamber one at a time. In each of these areas are monsters who would like nothing better than to turn you into a midnight snack. It’s up to you to figure out what type of spell will be the most effective against your opponent; these battles yield gold and experience, which you then use to level up, buy new gear, and learn more powerful spells with.
Spellcraft: School of Magic is due out in November.
