Shiver me timbers! ngmoco, best known as the publisher of social iPhone games like We Rule and Godfinger, is getting set to take players on a high seas adventure in the upcoming Adventure Bay – and Gamezebo has the exclusive first look!

At first, Adventure Bay may feel a tad familiar to veterans of earlier ngmoco games. Players will be given their own island where they can construct buildings and harvest crops – but in Adventure Bay, every building is a quest-giving gateway to adventure.

After assembling a crew, players can go in search of treasure by accepting a quest from a building, which in turn will trigger a grid-based mini-game. Each character in your crew will be given a limited number of moves to reach the treasure, and players will need to become familiar with the different fighting styles of each character if they want to defeat the Colonial guards and make off with the booty.

Some of the core elements of Facebook treasure hunting games like Treasure Isle and Treasure Madness make an appearance in Adventure Bay, as players will be working towards assembling collections of treasure to unlock exclusive content. At launch, ngmoco is promising 75 pieces of loot and 32 collectable items – but as has become par for the course, they’re also promising regular content updates and surprises.

The visuals here are leaps and bounds beyond what gamers have come to expect from social iPhone games. While the presentation might be similar in style to ngmoco’s We series, the level of detail that’s gone into every facet of this game is absolutely astounding. While our time with the game was brief, it’s hard to not call this the best looking social iOS title yet – and it looks just as good on the iPad as it does on the iPhone.

In terms of social interaction, Adventure Baywill let aspiring pirates dock their ships on their friends’ islands, gain loot by interacting with friends’ buildings and ships, and help friends to complete quests of their own.

In an interesting twist, Adventure Bay will be ngmoco’s first social game where players won’t need a Plus+ login to play. Going that route will limit players to the non-social elements of the game, but at the same time will allow players who aren’t interested in their social service a chance to see what their style of play has to offer.

As is typical with most social games, Adventure Bay will have an early debut in Canada before launching in the rest of the world. Canadian iOS gamers can expect to get their hands on Adventure Bay sometime today (UPDATE — the game is live in Canada now and can be downloaded here), while ngmoco is hoping to let the rest of the world set their sights on the high seas by the end of the year.
