Chronicles of Mystery: Curse of the Ancient Temple

Originally appearing on the Nintendo DS in November 2009, Chronicles of Mystery: Curse of the Ancient Temple is the first mobile adventure in City Interactive’s popular PC Chronicles of Mystery series. Now on its way to the iPhone, fans of the PC games will likely notice a number of changes that have been made to the series latest edition.

As the story begins, a young archaeologist named Sylvie is asked to join her uncle, a renowned historian, in France. She arrives only to find him missing, his disappearance seemingly connected to a mysterious underground chapel that dates back to the Crusades.

 Curse of the Ancient Temple

Something of a re-imagining of the series first entry, The Scorpio Ritual, Curse of the Ancient Temple‘s gameplay varies somewhat from its PC predecessors. Rather than a straight forward 3D adventure, expect an adventure that blends elements of hidden object games and 14 mini-games into the mix. The game has also received a visual makeover to make it more conducive to mobile screens.

The hidden object elements will form a part of the overall story, but can also be played independent of the main game by selecting the “Hidden World” game mode. With more than 50 fully-rendered locations, object hunting is sure to run the gamut.

If the iPhone experience is anything like the DS experience (and we have every reason to believe it will be), the mini-games included will offer a familiar experience to most gamers. Variations on games like Pipe Mania and Spot the Difference were included in the previous handheld version, and will no doubt make a return here.

The adventure elements offered are set to take advantage of features unique to the iPhone. You’ll guide your character through dark labyrinths using your iDevice’s tilt functionality, and solve riddles by touching, moving, rotating and shaking you iPhone.

No release date has been announced for this iPhone version, but judging by the screens it seems to be coming along nicely. Be sure to set a Gamezebo game alert to be notified the moment the game is released.
