Click Play 2 Review

Have you ever lost the remote? You pop in a DVD, get cozy on the couch, reach for that magic TV wand and… it's gone! Click PLAY 2 feels a lot like that, only instead of a remote you'll be looking for the PLAY button itself. And instead of starting a popcorn movie night, pushing play advances you to the next level. Click PLAY 2 is an eclectically silly puzzle game that hides the PLAY button in the strangest of places, and it's up to you to find it

Click PLAY 2 is an eclectically silly puzzle game that hides the PLAY button in the strangest of places, and it's up to you to find it.

Clicking with your mouse, you'll try your hand at finding the missing play button in each of the 24 scenarios. It sounds simple, but that doesn't mean you'll ever really know what it is you're getting into with each level. Each one is vastly different than the one before. One level you need to drive a little car around a track. In another you need to pick up popsicle sticks to find the missing play button. While the object of each level remains the same, how you'll solve each level is vastly different. You'll tackle everything from mini-putt to knocking Humpty Dumpty down in this wonderfully wacky puzzle experience.

Despite the eclectic mix of stages, Click PLAY 2 is really about one thing: exploration. You'll need to explore every nook and cranny of these stages to figure out what can be clicked on and what can be moved. In a lot of ways, Click PLAY 2 was reminiscent of Nintendo's WarioWare series. Both games present you with unfamiliar situations and expect you to figure them out on your own, and both games rely on a simple control scheme to make figuring each of these levels out more fun than frustrating. Where Click PLAY 2 is different from WarioWare is that you won't be forced to solve these puzzles in 3 second increments.

The 24 different puzzles in Click PLAY 2 range from embarrassingly simple to downright infuriating. Relying on logic, speed, and outside of the box thinking, Click PLAY 2 really puts all of your gaming skills to the test. It's just a shame that some of these moments are so intensely difficult. One of the last stages has you trying to wedge four slices of the play button together, but they keep moving back to their start point before you can get all four to touch. Unless you have the patience of a saint, moments like this will probably be game ending.

Between the black and white presentation, the chipper music, and the occasional fast motion characters, the entire experience feels like a silent comedy come to live. There's a definite sense of fun and whimsy about the game that seems to invite you in, despite the difficulty you'll inevitably face. Click PLAY 2 is a fun and frantic experience, offering up music and art that help to showcase this crazy vibe.

There's certainly some game-crippling difficulty mixed in amongst the whimsical and wandering nature of the gameplay, but even if you aren't up to the challenge of some of the harder levels Click PLAY 2 is well worth a few minutes of your time. When it's not beating you over the head with challenge, Click PLAY 2 is pure joy that shouldn't be missed.
