Mini Motor Racing EVO Review

May 14, 2013

3

Have you ever played a racing game that handled so poorly that it actually went full circle, with the controls suddenly becoming a sort of unique difficulty curve to the game? No, of course you haven't – such a thing can't possibly exist. Well, until now that is. Imagine having to race using the Warthog from Halo. Then crank up the drift-o meter just that little bit extra, and you've got Mini Motor Racing EVO. Although it initially feels sloppy, this Micro Machines-inspired racer slowly begins to win your trust as you plug away at its mental controls.

IMPOSSIBLE ROAD Review

May 10, 2013

3.5

Remember Peach's Slide from Super Mario 64? Mario would go shooting down on his bottom, grabbing coins along the way, and making sure not to fall off the edges. However, if you could take a dive at the right moment, it was possible to fall onto another section of the slide below, and shave entire seconds off your time. This is the basis for Impossible Road, a new mobile game that will make you rip your hair out much in the same way that Super Hexagon did before it. It may be a little too based on luck for my liking, but that doesn't stop this minimalist game from being one hell of a rush.

Survivalcraft Review

May 8, 2013

2.5

It can be very easy to shout "clone!" and refuse to play a game based on the fact that its screenshots and general outline appear to be copied directly from another video game. Sometimes, however, a game heavily inspired by another can bring some great, unique ideas to the surface that really make us question the original concept.

Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine Review

May 1, 2013

4.5

There was a specific, memorable moment when I realized just how brilliant Monaco is. Myself and three friends had just successfully stolen a bundle of unmarked bills from the Casino de Monte Carlo, and were making our way to the exit when a guard popped out of a nearby corridor, forcing me to dart through the closest doorway.

Bloop Review

Apr 30, 2013

2

Sometimes a series of smaller niggles - niggles that on their own wouldn't be too great of a threat - can build up to the extent that they completely overshadow any of the good that a video game has to offer. A lot of the time it's silly little things that are easily solvable, but were simply overlooked.

Papo & Yo Review

Apr 18, 2013

4

Papo & Yo is beautiful, heartbreaking, moving, upsetting, powerful, and plenty of other conflicting emotions all rolled into one. It's a magical experience that captivates throughout, with puzzles that will have you genuinely smiling along, to scenes that will stir up something inside you that video games don't often touch.

Starseed Pilgrim Review

Apr 16, 2013

3.5

Sometimes a game comes along that is simply too abstract to be recommendable to all, yet still feels like an experience you should be nudging as many people as possible in the direction of. Starseed Pilgrim is not for everyone - in fact, I would suggest that it's not even for most people.

Pressure Review

Apr 10, 2013

4.5

I love nice surprises, and indie racer/shmup Pressure is certainly one of those. With enemy vehicles all around you, all guns blazing in your general direction, you'd think that picking bullets out of your teeth would be all that's left of your career in living.

Retro/Grade Review

Mar 26, 2013

4

It turns out that when you reverse a side-scrolling space shooter, you get a Guitar Hero-like rhythm game instead. If you based your purchase of Retro/Grade on the screenshots alone then you might well be initially disappointed, then rather curious, and soon after, rapidly satisfied.
