Big Tree Defense is a member of the tower defense genre of video games, in which players arrange assorted types of gun turrets and other fantastical weaponry in order to intercept and destroy wave after wave of attacking enemies. It's a simple concept that's been around for years; at their most basic, tower defense games are easy-to-play time-killers, but some of the more advanced versions require a surprising amount of strategic thinking. This one definitely falls into the latter category.

Crap of Defense Review

Crap of Defense hardly lives up to its name, and that’s a good thing. The simple premised but increasingly difficult defense game pits your thumb controlled canon against a gang of different colored soldiers hellbent on destroying you. If resource management seemed like too big a task for you to get into typical tower defense games, then Crap of Defense will probably suit you just fine.

Let's be honest about something: tower defense games on the iPhone are a dime a dozen these days. The big problem is that, by now, there are a ton of really good entries in the genre, which means that it's increasingly difficult to create a tower defense game that actually stands out from the pack. Thankfully, Chillingo's Defender Chronicles: Legend of the Desert King manages to not only stand out, but also maintain a sense of challenge while staying fun.

SNAFU Tower Defense Review

Dec 31, 2009, 1:00pm

4.5

After clicking though the disappointing Bejeweled Twist late last year, we were concerned PopCap Games, one of our favorite casual game companies, had lost its mojo. Thankfully, we were dead wrong.

From the folks who brought us Peggle, Insaniquarium, Chuzzle and Bookworm Adventures comes – get this – a game about plants. Tough plants. Plants so tough they can stop hoards of nasty zombies from terrorizing the neighborhood. Plants vs. Zombies is a quirky Tower Defense-style game of wits that might look like a cakewalk, but proves to be as challenging as it is fun.
