It’s a Christmas miracle! Update 1.6 for Star Wars: The Old Republic features a handful of festive items based on “Life Day,” a holiday introduced in the oft-neglected Star Wars Holiday Special. For those unaware, Lucasfilm—and, by extention, LucasArts—has mostly ignored the Star Wars Holiday Special since it aired on TV back in 1978. It was never rebroadcast, nor has it ever been available through legal means. Did the Disney acquisition cause them to have a change of heart?

Star Wars: The Old Republic now free to play

The writing has been on the wall for a while now, but Star Wars: The Old Republic has officially gone free -- or at least a significant chunk of it has. Players will be able to level up to 50 and make their way through the main story free of charge, but other aspects require either paying a monthly subscription or purchasing “Cartel Coins” to spend in the game.

Which as we all know in internet time is approximately seven hundred years. Which, coincidentally, is how long you'll be spending playing Star Wars: The Old Republic now that it's gone completely free-to-play for the first fifteen levels! See what I did there?

Blizzard says World of Warcraft numbers declining due to The Old Republic

As of November 2011, there were about 10.3 million subscribers to World of Warcraft. That number is nothing to scoff at (most games would kill for those kinds of numbers), but when that number was at 12 million just a year earlier, there's cause for concern.
