Sonic is back to finish the journey he first started back in 2010, and this time he’s brought along someone you may well recognize. Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 follows up on the original episode, with the aim to hark back to Sonic gaming of the 90's while injecting this millennium's 3D coat of paint.

Shuggy is a vampire who's inherited a great, grey Scottish mansion from his grandfather. That's the good news; the bad news is that it's infested with ghosts, zombies and other such unpleasantness, and in The Adventures of Shuggy it's his job to clean it out by collecting gems, finding keys and unlocking more of the many rooms in the huge mansions, so he can do it all over again.

MANOS: The Hands of Fate Preview

May 15, 2012, 1:24pm

Remember the good old days of videogames where every media franchise under the sun was turned into a videogame, whether or not it made any sense at all? Videosgames didn’t need a reason to exist, bringing about wonderful moments like townsfolk trying to kill Marty in Back to the Future, and Darth Vader turning into a scorpion in Star Wars.

FreakZone asks the dangerous question: what if this thinking was applied to one of the worst movies of all time?

This Could Hurt Review

May 14, 2012, 11:53am

3.5

Ah, adolescence. A time of growing up and becoming a young adult. The start of romance, education, the spikes, the buzz saws, the . . . what? It seems that Great Oak Villiage does things a little bit differently than kids these days are used to. Want to become an Oakguard? You’re going to have to defy death and escape the Path of Pain. Good luck.

Ninja Chicken Ooga Booga Review

May 14, 2012, 7:42am

3.5

Remember Ninja Chicken? It was that chicken-based platformer that released on Android in March. After over five million downloads, MoMinis decided to set the little guy loose for another outing. I typically enjoy scoffing at developers who rush the sequel to a solid game, especially when the original is less than two months old. In this case, I feel I need to make an exception. Not a ton has changed from the original, but Ninja Chicken Ooga Booga is another solid outing.

Gunbrick Review

May 13, 2012, 4:33pm

If you want to be a retro looking game and play in a 50 pixel by 50 pixel space, then really you need to be pretty simple. There’s only so much that can go on in such a tiny spot. In Gunbrick, you play as a tiny square who can rotate left and right with the keyboard and fire a gun that sticks out of one of your four sides. You can’t move the gun, you can only change which direction it’s pointed by rolling around. It’s a unique mechanic and it’s put to excellent use over the course of the game.

A Valley Without Wind Review

May 1, 2012, 9:58am

3.5

There’s a certain sense of nostalgia that gets tapped into whenever I load up a 2D sidescrolling exploration platformer, or as their known now a “Metroidvania” experience. Long mornings turned into evenings as I went over every little pixel with every tool in my arsenal, to discover every passage to get every treasure in games like Symphony of the Night and Super Metroid. Recent indie release A Valley Without Wind wants to tap into that while throwing in the proverbial kitchen sink for good measure, so stick with me for a bit.
